im not a gamer but did have to recently upgrade my machine cause it was beginning to take a beating. i ended up getting a refurbed box with the i7 860 chip in it for about $500 less than it would have cost me to buy the components.
Dirsregard earlier post. I see that you went with an AMD chip. Im guessing probably the Phenom II?
I havent built a machine in years other than my lab servers and wasnt really up on the latest and greatest hardware. I remember Ian making a post about a machine he build a little while back and until i read his post i hadnt realized how far Intel has pulled away from AMD. When i was reading up on processors over the last couple of months im convinced that nothing can touch the i7 series but im curious as to what you think of your chip? I was personally always an AMD guy and the last Intel i owned before my i7 was a first gen 586! ;D
Asus is always been my choice for MB and the machine i recently bought happens to be an Asus. So is my laptop and my media player. Im a BIG fan! The seem to have some QC issues in the last year or so but i still think they are one of the best bar none!
lol i bought the phenom II X3 (triple core) popped into bios and unlocked the 4th core for free and OC’d it to 3.2MHz from 2.8, i have 2 gig of corsair DDR3 1600 (PC3 12,800) alot of people think you can put 4-8-16 gig of ram on any computer but if you have WinXP 32 bit like i do it wont read more than 2.7 gig of the memory even if it registers it. and im not buying another windows just to get 64 bit.
The GPU is what you see with 1 gig of onboard GDDR5 memory running at 256mb interface… just just sick.

holy $hit, you gotta be pushing multiple k’s for that thing[/quote]
dollars? i spent under $600… thats whats great about barebones!!
edit… well i guess a grand, i already had the 550w power supply, HD with windows on it, and the sound card…
what i like is the express gate on the MB i can hit the power button and even before the bios load you get options for internet, online games, and music without loading the OS. from power button to online ~10 seconds
anyways, your absolutely correct about the RAM Tim. Furthermore, most apps, including 64bit apps, arent optimized to use the double bus or the large quantities of RAM anyways since the are simply made to be compatible and not optimal. However, migrating to a 64bit OS and increasing the RAM will make a HUGE difference in overall perforamance and multitasking.
if you need a 64bit OS let me know. ive got a couple laying around including XPSUPERIOR 64bit which is amazing and what i was running on my old box till i replaced it with win764prof.
newegg rocks. i toggle between them, tiger, and amazon. between the three you will always get the best price IME
I was a hardcore Everquest player i played for ten years. I sold my toon last year for 3400.00 to a guy in china.Sadest day of my life walking away from that toon. Now you post that uber azz computer on here and i need rehab to keep from doing the same thing and seting up a new account
Kicking the mmorpg habit was the best thing i have ever done!! I left 2 lvl70 characters on my WoW server and never looked back! I can not even believe the amount of time i put into that game. I feel like the biggest loser on the planet! ;D
