The state will provide all necessary materials (bags, gloves, vests, signs), all we have to provide is some man (woman) hours 3 times a year. No grass cutting, no flower planting, no tree pruning - just a 2 mile stroll 3 times a year to pick up some recyclables and trash.
I would like to do it - anyone else willing to participate?
I would say the best bet to do it would be to find out a location that is available and how often they would estimate it needed to be walked. After that create a sign up sheet and see if we can find people to commit to cleaning it for 6 months. If the sign up sheet full of dates ends up looking like Craig, Craig, Craig, Bill, Craig, Jon, Craig, Craig, Paul, Craig… you may want to reconsider.
I’d be down, but how frequently would depend on how far away it is. New Castle county is an obvious choice as our southern members are consistently being inconsistent in their attendance. Sussex county is just out of the question.
I just spoke to DelDot. Basin Rd. is already taken by William Penn HS.
They’ve indicated that they do have a need for someone to take over Rt. 7 between Rt.40 and Rt. 273. This is the road by the Bear library that we meet at for our Dr. Mac trips.
Since we don’t need a huge turn out to make a roadside clean-up succesful I am going to fill out the paperwork so they can get our signs made up and placed on the roadway.
We will organize our first clean-up in the early spring for those that are interested in helping.

[ul][li]it is fairly centralized for those of us in New Castle County[/li]
[li]It’s a relatively safe road to walk along[/li]
[li]There was a need to have this road maintained[/li]
[li]It’s a fairly high traffic road (good exposure for us)[/li]
[li]If we work towards Rt. 40 we end at Stewarts ;D[/li][/ul]
I know the people in this club well enough to know that we will have good turn outs for clean-up days. We’ve talked about finding a way to give back to the community and environment for years - this is a great way to do it without having to walk through the mud or try to keep track of how many horse shoe crab eggs are in a hole at 2am.
Besides - won’t it be cool to drive down the street and see our name on a sign?

Way to go Craig! Good call. you broke the community service good deed barrier. I’ll be there to pick up too.[/quote]
