Ds4x4's Marineland 120 (Noahs' Ark)

time to get it’s own thread since the 220 got sold. i’m calling this Noahs’ Ark since everything is 2x2. i try to have pairs of each fish/invert so that i can enjoy their breeding behavior and corals get some yummy snakcs every so often. maybe even attempt to raise something later down the road.

Currently running a Marineland 120 sitting on a black pine stand bought from Charlie at DPA. This is a Mixed reef, anything from Acros to Leathers, inverts and fish. Lighting consists of a Currant USA Nova 8x54w with a single contour lens. (bulb specs to come later.) Flow in the tank is provided from the Reeflo Marlin return pump and a single MP40W Gen 2, set on Reef Crest. i Currently dose Brightwells Calcion and Alk along with Kent Strontium.

Feeding is a mix between Frozen, live brine and Blackworms, Pellet, flake and a Custom Flake Food.

All plumbing is down to the basement thru the floor, the Tank is run with a Dual Sump setup. first up is a Custom 100gal Rubbermaid Stock tank where extra rock is held for pod, mysis to grow out along with any sponges. Water is filtered through a sock then the MSX250 can skim the water. It then drains to a Oceanic Sump with cheato in the first section and rubble rock then to the Refuge. The refuge has a 2" sandbed with rubble rock, Grape Caulerpa and Feather Caulerpa and unknown Red macro Algae. Third section it a buble trap and bulkheads for the return plumbing.

YAHOO! Nice looking tank! So you are the guy who bought my tank? I have been planning to replace my 10 year old 75 with a 120RR from Charlie’s . I just don’t know when, yet. That seems to be a nice size, demension wise. Yours is looking good. I wish i had a basement. Im gonna have to fit all that sump stuff right here in my dining room.

I’m not real good on recall for specs on pumps and stuff. What is the delivered flow rate of your sump pumps? coming from a basement you have a good deal of head pressure to overcome. what kind of turnover and in tank flow rates are you using?

Don’t worry. when i’m ready, i can order a new tank from Charlie.

Nice collection of fish!

my wife and i went back and forth whether or not to buy the tank and we happened to get a 600 electric bill from running her 55 and my 220 with Metal halides so that pushed us to combine and be a decent size still. I had enough equipment to have 1 really nice tank setup but not quite enough to run two tanks like they should have been run. The tank 48x24x24 is a great dimension i actually feel i have too much rock in there and need to re-scape so the hippos will fit when they get bigger.

the Marlin is rated for 2300gph i think i have about 13’ of head pressure and i’m running the pump almost 50% open which is almost too much. nice pressure coming out but im pushing the envelope for the overflow. i’d say i have 800gph running through the tank 6X turnover from the return pump and probably 1500gph or so from the vortech. i’d love to get another Vortech and the Apex but havent got the cash yet.

Also will be adding 3 Female anthias and maybe another small tang. o and take the darn pistol shrimp out…

that is a great size and the look of what u have is fantastic. obviously Noah needs a second clam lOl

nice setup! we are looking for a larger home, and when we find something, odds are i will have a basement sump and frag system and a display on the ground floor like you have. it just makes things nice and tidy.
great pics too. GolfC

if you didnt notice the sump setup and return pump is from Terri and Ant when they broke down the 210… same exact setup haha… we were going to go thru the wall but have Pine up to the chair rail so my brother cut a big square in the carpet and down the pipes went.

I’m still thinking about taking some rock out but i need to take out some darn Anthelia. its growing but something nips off a hand or two and the green buttons catch them and in they go haha… takes a day for them to be spit out. Almost bought the Niger trigger at DPA today and whoever has the CBB on hold D$%@ u. Pearscale butterfly was really tempting too.

not the rubbermaid tub though, right? i thought my buddy kevin bought that?

sweet pics…tanks even better in person…the one you sold my buddy is coming along nicely.
