I’ve used those little fans before and they work, but not on larger tanks. I’ve been mounting a ceiling fan above my tank for 2-3 years and it can really cool the tank. I’m able to maintain 78deg winter and summer. I just wired my ceiling fan to a plug and popped it into the controller.

I had a 180, and had the old fan clamped near my sump in my cabinet, and it worked fine set on the slowest speed. The controller by itself is worth the investment, the fan and heater is just gravy.
