I have finally found a reasonable price for black eggcrate with no minimum order. Its 13.50 for a 2’X4’ sheet, im not sure how much the s&h will be. im not familiar with the wholesaler, but they appear to be reputable. im going to order a couple of sheets for myself. if anyone is interested in adding to the order, lmk.
I may be good for one sheet or so… I’ll let ya know.
Jon had found a guy from the DVRC that has the black egg crate available. he said he can get it anytime we need. He even delivered it to us at PA. $10.00 a sheet. Not saying this is a better option as I am not sure if it was part of a group buy or not, but it may be something worth looking into.
yeah, let me know if you can get some. i need to get my tanked coverd. if i have one more fish jump out of my tank im going to lose my mind.
the fellow andy is talking about is in the lighting business, if i’m not mistaken. so i think he can get it pretty much anytime you want.
lets make it happen! >LOL<
Hey guys, why black? Wouldn’t you lose a lot of light that way? Just curious…
Joe
Just for looks mostly Joe. If you can get it for 10$ a sheet then I would be good for a sheet or two definatley.
Oh, okay. I guess if you don’t have a canopy that would be nice.
there really shouldnt be a difference between using black or white eggcrate as far as lighting is concerned. the both pose the same obstacle for light and should impact it equally. the black is simply for asthetics, and it makes great frag racks in the display.
Thats what I was planning on using it for to, and if you can get it for 10$ that is what I pay for white, so I might as well stock up on a little.
I am in for 2 sheets
Im in for at least 2, maybe three.
i ordered a pack of 1" X .25" neodymium magnets and plan on making one or two of these. the pic is from a sponsers ebay auction, im hoping they wont mind me posting.
do you guys think the magnet that sits inside the tank will need to be completely coated in epoxy? the seemed to be completely exposed in the pics.
They sell then pre-coated also
where?
hmmm…do you know a cheap source? i found a few but the are very expensive. i paid $5 for 10 brand new neodymium magnets. i also still have a ton of epoxy left over from my turtle tank. its a pain to make up, but cheaper than buying them coated i think.
I have used these guys before. They don’t always have the lowest price but when you figure shipping they are the cheapest
thats the vendor i was looking at. it would be easier to buy plastic coated but not cost effective.
i saw something at homedepot that i might try instead of epoxy. its an RTV type coating used to replace the coating on hand tools and such things. if i recall its pretty cheap and should accomplish the same thing without the trouble of mixing. ill post my results when i make them.
the pic you posted shawn shows the exposed external magnets, the ones that sit inside the tank are housed in the completely filled square of eggcrate. As I have been readin they need to be sealed completely. Obviously outside the tank would not matter. I have seen other companies that use a clear acryllic to house the magnets in. I will see if I can dredge up that link when I get home.
Hey! I’ll take a sheet of that black egg crate too. no matter where you get it. (within reason) Put me down for one sheet and tell me when to pay. I’ll fit it into some project.
