the fans in my lid are already sticking and noisy as all h e double hockey sticks. what can be done to cure this besides replacing?
They are probably rusted. No fix only replace
well, there may be something. Those cheap 5 dollar store clip on fans i have used to cool the tank in summer have really cheap motors. no ball bearings. just a sleave bearing. and that sleave would get gummed up with dirt, hair, grease from the cooking in the kitchen… you name it. and every few months they would just pack up and stop . so i just open it up, and spray some wd-40 in the bearing, while having the power on, and spinnig the fan with my finger till it started again. a few more spritzes and it was good to go for a while again. I suspect the fan motors are sleave bearing. the ball bearing ones are usually sealed and last a long time. worth a shot. if not, look for a replacement fan. either the manufacturers parts or perhaps one from the net.
Voltage? AC or DC? Dimensions? pin connector? knowingthese you should be able to find a replacement on the net for a few bucks. or radio shack.
What kind/size of Aquapod? JBJ?
ya ken i am sure they are sleeved and i have some really good spray on grease lube i will try if powder grarhite does not work. the powder will not harm electronics as liquid grease would. i am going to tear into lid tonight and see if i can get them from bieng noisy. if all else fails i will remove them and get new ones, here in dover i might be able to get at computer place if they are 12 volt ones
the WD40 is also a great solvent that will disolve and rinse out greasy crud. and then also be a lubricant. but mostly the cleaning aspect helps get the fans spinning again. it also water proofs. so no harm to electric connections. when my boat’s point and condenser ingnition and coil and wires would get wet from ocean storm waves breaking over the roof, i could just give em all a blast of WD40 to dry them out and remove the ground.
It’s good stuff. I even sprayed my artifical trolling lures with WD40 because of some natural oil that is in it is a natural fish attractant too. We did that on the west coast too trolling for king salmon. never missed.
i heard that too ken so i tryed it on live bait…what a waste of time. i was flounder fishing and tryed it. i had the sprayed minnow on the line for 5 hours and never a hit. all the other rods were gettting hits. i took that hook and minnow off and started catching fish right away with rod…
thats odd, Ive used it trolling for ocean run salmon on the west coast, and blue fish, weakfish and shark off new jersey. not always. just when my old fishing bud was along. he swore by it. I was a purist. nice clean cut baits soaked in shedder, bunker or tuna oils. soaked chicken strips worked great for the flounder.
My favorite trolling lure:
6 inch root beer ZUKER
