I left a little early, so i don’t know who won what, especially the cube tank… someone will have to fill in the blanks… Lots of info at this meeting, two presentations… the first of which was a reef photography tutorial, i have to admit, i “thought” i was a little un-prepared when i left my cheat sheet home, but when i found out my laptop wouldn’t plug into the projector i knew i was in trouble! verdict_in hope somebody gained something from it, if i didn’t completely lose everyone first. LoL… I’ll start a thread where we can all post pics for some tips, or guidance to get our cameras to cooperate!. …
Our second presentation was by John (houndsbayman). He was nice enough to video his construction of a DIY frag tank made from acrylic, with a built in overflow box. He showed us step by step how he achieved really professional results, right on the kitchen counter!..and saving roughly half the cost of buying one in the process. John made it look so easy, and i’ll have to remember the twist-tie pin technique whenever i get around to an acrylic build… Great Job on the tank, and the presentation John! GolfC
Craig, our president, mentioned some mingling with our neighbor club…The Delaware Valley Reef Club, i’m sure he’ll fill us in with more details as they develop. Thanks again to Ken for the home cooking! I didn’t try the seafood lasagna, but the stuffed cabbage was outta this world… And thanks again to all those who take time out of their day to get everything together and setup the meetings, and …clean up after…
Here’s a few pics from the meeting…
Shadow puppets? or is he going for the two handed head rub on Craig??
John, I’ve always wondered How you keep all those DPA fish/coral photos in focus with great true color. and how you get those constantly swimmieng fish in focus for those perfectly posed shots. Hold that little auto focus button down and pan! and all that white scale adjusting for color rendering too. Great stuff.
I learned some new stuff from John Houndsbayman too about building acrylic tanks. you dug up some important stuff in your research. like the thing of cutting the corner off the triangles to keep the solvent from flowing under it and staining the plexi. And how to use the pins of appropriately small diameter. That turned out to be a really nice frag tank. Great project. and its already full of frags!
Hi all! Just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting last night! The presentations were great! Very nice to meet you all! Oh and Saltcreep-That was me-I won the Tank!!! WooHoo! Beginners luck I guess. Its going to make a great nano!Cant wait to get started on it. PBJ!
I didn’t think it was fair that the picture taker could get away with giving a presentation and not having his picture taken. However when I took the pictures he hadn’t finished giving his presentation.
I believe in this shot I needed a tripod or to leave the camera sitting on a chair for 10 seconds.
This is called the cone head feature in my cameras settings… ok not really this is just where I should have adjusted the ISO or Craig should have stopped moving around in the background! Ok more likely the ISO should have been set to get a little more movement Craig doesn’t move that fast these days.
This is the only half decent shot I took of John, but he looked down!
Oh well, obviously my skills can’t match John’s yet, but at least he didn’t get away with not having his picture in the post meeting wrap up thread.
Thanks Craig for running the meeting. Thanks to the sponsors for all the goodies. Thanks to both John and John for the presentations. Learned a bit from each of them. Thanks Ken for bringing in the home cooked food. Not a veggie fan, but the meat balls, and lasagna were good.
Congrats Jessica! PoM So what do you have planned for that tank??? and thanks for adding pics Jon! thats exactly why i take pics…SO I DONT HAVE TO BE IN THEM… lOl Your pics are just fine… try using a flash next time in a dark room like that… (you prob heard me say not to, but i only meant on tanks)… anyway, don’t dare pick your nose at next months meeting, cause i’ll be taking lots of pics of you for the March meeting summary ::

Call me if you come up this way. If not, I can pick it up at the next meeting if you don’t mind holding it for me.
