This may be better discussed in a private area… but since it’s out there I think premium member status should be what it is and available to all who pay, it is clear that membership is annually and Marty keeps those records maybe we can work on getting those into a database and on their forum profiles.
I think a way to drive up meeting attendance is offer perks at the meetings like the raffles and get in some speakers and maybe some goofy contest for free raffle tickets and stuff like that.
There was talk of having every other meeting at the Fishbowl and meeting there during the summer when the school was closed. I came to the meeting in March at the Fishbowl and thought this great, meetings here and I don’t have to travel up north to the school. I travel enough going to work and don’t feel driving to the school. Plus, I have to get up early for work and if I did attend the meeting at the school I would get home rather late. So I joined and paid my dues. In the 10 months since the Fishbowl meeting, that has been the only meeting there. Rather disappointing.
When I paid my dues, I was told I would receive my membership card in a month. In May, I inquired about my membership card and was told it would be checked into. In June, I inquired again and was told those should have been mailed out. I provided my full name and mailing address to receive my card. Guess what I don’t have to this day?
I was ready to give up on this club. What’s the point of paying for a membership if: 1) I can’t even get my membership card and 2)meeting aren’t going to held at a location where I will attend.
If meeting can start occurring at the Fishbowl, I would love and be happy to attend. I found the meeting there very informative and interesting. The presentation was on algae scrubbers. I knew nothing about them. I ended up building one and it’s best thing I have done for my tank. So please lets make it a reality and start have some meeting at the Fishbowl. Thanks
You have every right to be dissatisfied with our club. The membership cards have been a problem for some time now and I wish I could tell you why it has taken so long for you to get a card.
I asked for one awhile back also and still don’t have one either.
please don’t give up on our club, these issues will be taken care of shortly.
I’m very happy to see another member who joined from the southern parts show up on the board. I assure you this WI be taken care of and I will look into it myself. If this meeting can happen at the fish bowl this month and you show up that night and pay dues for the year I will make sure you receive your myers card personally

I agree with you 100% frank. As I also agree with karen, I think we should keep it the way it is for premium members. It will atleast require members come to 1 meeting to see what we offer.[/quote]
let us then pick this discussion back up in the mod forum
I’m new to the club, so please forgive the potential over-step here… Having been involved heavily with another local club that has since just about died, I’d like to suggest you not make any of these sorts of decisions in a vacuum. The beginning of the end tends to come when people feel they are being treated as second class citizens and then trust starts to evaporate and before you know it, people stop showing up altogether.
I’d like to throw out a suggestion to add to the conversation also…I for one support having some sort of participation requirement as a part of premium membership (of which I am not yet a member), but that could also include board participation (in my opinion). I like meeting people and talking reefs, but the overwhelming majority of the benefit I’ve gotten from membership at Nano-Reef, , Reef2Reef, etc. has been having this forum resource available when I have a question or I want to see what others are doing, etc. Someone who regularly contributes new or useful or interesting information to the forum is more useful to me on a more regular basis than being physically collocated with members once a month.
Final thought, the other club had a really hard time with meetings because they did a terrible job of making sure they moved around enough to include everyone. That club has a wider geographic area associated with it, but the problem is the same. The suggestions to jump back and forth from stores to the school location seems like a great one to me.
I am sure someone has proposed this before but I’ll ask
any way. I’m really curious if there is any way to have
meetings on weekends as opposed to weeknights?
At least once in a while? Like 4 times a year since that
is the criteria for premium membership.
I don’t get home from work until after 6 to 630.
And 7 times out of 10 even later. And if I am home early
its not usually when the meetings are…Just my luck.
I understand that the school is closed on Saturday but
would the Fish bowl be an option? Just saying
I would be able to attend some meetings on weekends.
For me anyway…work just gets in the way…
So, I don’t understand how we can keep our premium status
otherwise. We couldn’t even go to the Christmas party
due to family obligations.
Thank you for this feedback. This is what we have been after for some time now. Rome wasn’t built in a day but they built it! And so will we. So please be patient with the new transitions and we get it sorted out.
:Welcome)

Really nice to hear! I’m enjoying the open-mindedness that seems to be present in this conversation. I didn’t realize that meetings are typically on weeknights. That’s gonna be a tough road for me too. I’d most likely miss most (if not all meetings for that reason). Super major bummer…
Thanks for the welcome!
Welcome to the club it’s great to hear a new voice.
We are all ears so we want to hear things everyone want changed so we can work on that. We can’t make changes to the club unless people tell us. Like jason said please be patient with us we are working to address some of these issues. Thanks for speaking out.
