Ok,
not sure if it was the economy, nervous disorder, or the wife’s 2 cats. But I have now given up on fire fish in our tank.
The first one was in the tank for about an hour… was down in the rock. I went out to cut egg crate, came back in and he was already gone. Ok, chalk that up to closing the barn after the horse got loose. Wait a week, have egg crate in place. ( although i don’t really like it up there) Add 2nd fire fish. Fast forward 6weeks, all is well, I come home tonite and find him behind the tank still damp. Guess he just couldn’t take it anymore. :SURRENDER
Dang shame, I hate to kill any of the critters… Guess it’s about time for a flame and/or coral beauty…maybe a nice little tang. Of course, always need more rock and corals!! At least zoo’s don’t jump too much.
Sorry to hear that. I know those are known jumpers. That’s why I’m going away from fish and doing corals only.
Zoanthids don’t jump, but they may wish they had the ability to if you put a flame and or coral beauty in the tank. I would venture to guess about 90% of the time they like the taste of zoanthids instantly, 99% of the time they develop the taste for them if they don’t like them to begin with, and the remainder are owned by people who love to charge the forums and brad their angelfish don’t eat coral.
Perhaps these are overly exaggerated numbers however I will tell you the percentages are high enough that I would never recommend a Centropyge angelfish to someone who wanted to have zoanthids survive.
I have a lovely Coral Beauty that needs a new home. He doesn’t pick at any of my zooanthids, or any of my other corals for that matter. He swims actively in the open display area for me, I’ll try to get a picture of him up tomorrow. I posted some pictures in my “moving” thread.
i wish my flame would eat zoos but it wont i guess i am the 1% person wish it was that way for the lottery. don’t get two though i have always had them die if more than 1

I would like to hear more people with 1st hand experience of this. Everyone I have known that has had them never had a problem. Is it REALLY that common? Zoos not surviving with them? never heard that before.
I’ve had a coral beauty and a bi-colored angel for over 3 years definitely don’t bother my zoos. Bi-colored nips at my frogspawn and devils hand every once in awhile usually right around feeding time.
well, thanks for the replies folks. I know there is a bit of debate around with pygmy angels and coral…folks seem divided. Between the continued research i did, and the sentiment here. I decided not to chance it with the flame.
The whole idea was to get some color in the 5month old tank. At least for now I went the safe route and got a nice looking little yellow tang to add to the family. Seems to be settling right in. I’ll crap if that can jump thru egg crate.
