The original plan for a clam was to wait til the tank was a year old, but everythings been going very well, and sps, lps, softies, fish and inverts are all growing, and the pod population is good imo. So we were in DPA with gift certificate in hand, and ended up taking this little guy home with us. It’s been there for at least a month, with no signs of anything bad, looked very hardy and was attached to the tray it was in. Jared busted out the razor blade and got it out flawlessly. I plan to put it up on the rockwork after a week or two, but got some good advice from jared to start it on the sand on a flat rock first. That saved a potential nightmare from happening ( like the clam falling deep into the rocks of our 125). anyway, within 10 minutes of being on this rock, i saw the clam shaking and moving itself around while pivoting on its little “foot”. I’m pretty sure i’m addicted, i found myself yelling at the tangs to get the hell outta my way so i could keep staring at it…
Here it is, a maxima…1 3/4 to 2 inches at the most.
Thanks guys… and i have yet to try any top-down shots… (not since Mardi Gras anyway) lOl
The light fixture would have to be moved for sure though… so between that, and me being much shorter then the tank, it probably won’t happen unless i coordinate it with a bulb changing in a month or two. I’ll def try then though!
I got my tiger Derasa clam at DPA too. Its been growing real fast. I would like a blue one similar to yours someday. or maybe a green one. I think they help keep the water clean and from turning green. they filter it.

Ken, their filtering mechanisms don’t provide enough to alter the color of water. they do remove a small bit of nitrates, but the idea that they, even in larger numbers than bill has, can filter particulates that would make water green is incorrect, buddy. just doesn’t happen.

Well I guess he needs to over fill that tank with 2,000 clams!
Funny, i was pleading my case to the wife earlier… “honey, you never see " a clam” in the wild, its always a clam bed" … it looks soooooo sad by itself…
