GE 2 clear 100% silicone.
they also sell some other stuff that says aquarium safe for twice the price for not even half as much. i havent really noticed a difference between the two.
Does that one also have a choice of the mold/mildew resistant stuff in it or is GE 2 clear the brand that is free of everything that is harmful?

This is a reef myth IMO. The inhibitors will only prevent bacteria from colonizing on the silicon itself. It will not leach into the water anymore than regular silicone will. Ive used the GEII BR with mold inhibitors with no problems other than very clean silicon!!! >LOL<
Brett’s right. The GEII is the way to go and the “aquarium safe” is WAY overpriced! Im sure the DAP brand is just as safe but it doesnt seem to have the same consistency IME. Very likely its just in my head! >LOL<
Depending on how thick you apply the silicone i would recommend you waiting at least twice the cure time before exposing to SW. The recommended time is 24hrs but 48hrs will ensure no headaches!
for some reason, no matter how many times i try to explain to customers that as long as u use clear, 100% silicone… u will be fine. they still insist on buying the 10 to 15 dollar tubes from the store. (which is fine by me i guess) but that simple label “aquarium silicone” makes all the difference is some peoples minds…
I build the simple fuge with cutting board from walwart for the baffles and 100% silcicone from home depot. I am soaking it with water vinegar and then then it will get plugged into the system with charcoal in a sox for insurance - I have confidence the cheap/ cost effective method will work out.
