Fish waterslide

I bought a small cleaner wrasse a couple of days ago and I realized last night that I couldn’t find him. When he didn’t show up the next morning, I checked the overflow and low and behold, there he was. Last week I had to pull a Firefish out of there, so I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and if so, what they do about. I had to let the Firefish take the water-slide down into the sump to get him out and terrified the poor thing! Is there a way of putting something around the overflow maybe so they don’t get sucked in?

I use “gutter guard” from Hme Depot. It’s a plastic flexible screen you can make an arch in the overflow to keep critters out.

Use the same here, works great.

Funny you mentioned this. I just had my longnose hawkfish jump into the over flow the other day.
I need to do the screen trick myself. I have had several fish jump in the over flow. It gets bad when its a big fish and he tries to jump away from the net cause he can’t be flushed into the sump, my foxface got so scratched up from that :frowning:

wow,
cool idea. As luck would have it, we added a couple things this weekend including a fire fish. I put the guy in, saw him hanging on the bottom hiding in the rock. Figured he’d come out in a couple of hours. We haven’t seen him since. I can’t tell if he jumped out, but i’ll sure check overflow and sump real good again.

I just picked up 2 firefish last week myself. They found a hole under a rock and it is now their safe haven. Didn’t come out for a few days, now they come out a few times aday.

It was harder trying to get the cleaner out because hes so small. Also, because hes so little, I’m afraid he’ll keep getting caught in there.

Soon as I put them in they made a home underneath of a rock and they pretty much stay there all the time besides feeding and an occasional outing.
