Fishing!

Drum season is just about here… I only went for drum one day last year, caught one 45lb fish. I’d like to hit it a little harder this year.

Lemme know if anyone’s in!

Joe, you got a boat or how do you fish for it?

im in let me know

I’d be up for it, haven’t done drum before but that wont stop me.

Id give it a shot joe… let’s hear some details.

Every year Glenn and I talk about getting some reefers together to go. I have a little boat, Glenn has a yacht. Between us we could probably take six or eight out. I fish the drum out of cedar creek, on the coral (tube worm) beds. We fished with surf clams and caught some trout and a couple other oddities.

If I remember correct its fished for at night best on a full moon.
Do you guys have a date or more details. Depending on the date and such I may be able to break free and make it. I never fished for them and heard they put up quite the fight

Al, that is the recommended method, but we fished it early morning last year and had some hits. Only one in the boat, but it was about 40lbs. I’d love to get a really early start. I don’t have any dates, but they run through May.

wow mind reader… joe i am going next saterday night if weather is good. my other friend ben with the 22 ft paker will be going out as well we are getting the generators ready for the long night. i am going this sunday out too reef site 10 for flounder and rock. i will call you tomorrow and we can decuiss this and make some plans.

joe they have seen the first few drum in nets out by lewes. full mooon is around the 15 th of may but i have been told that even no moon will produce just not as bright for trip. i am defenitly going next saterday if weather is warm for a night trip.

I think more important is you fish them at anchor on a running tide. Rising tide is best. going out, OK too. I believe a slip rig is the rig of choice. tie a big hook at the end of the line, bait with a big juicy clam, then put a sufficient weigth dipsy onto the line above the hook with a plastic TEE connector, so that when the sinker sits on the bottom, you can let the tide drag the hook and bait out another 20 feet through the TEE to dangle in the current near the bottom. That’s how they like em. or you can use a snap swivel to put the sinker on the line above the bait. that works too. use a couple feet of leader to tie the sinker to the swivel or TEE. it helps keep the line off the bottom to dangle.

Is that how you fish for them?

Next weekend may work for me as I am not on call. keep me in the loop

yes al thats excatly how i fish for them. and yes i will keep ya in loop. i can take 2 or 3 others on my boat. four people total is enough.

Im ready to go! Wanna trade gas money for an rp3?! Lol

watching weather closly for saterday evening. looking like rain may be a factor. i will make a decision thursday evening and post here. as it looks now we m ay be able to go out saterday afternoon and see how long the weather holds out as long as the wind is calm and just small chance of showers. i figured some flounder fishing then try for drum. if wind is calm we can make a track up to reef site 8 9 and maybe 10. so all partys that may be able to go check here thursday evening. i will check marine forcast for saterday and saterday evening. if all is good we will make plans.

Just watch if the tide is moving against the wind while you are out there. it gets really ruff when the wind stands the waves up and packs them close together.

Hmmm, do you need a bottle of bunker oil? i think i have a ten year old bottle in the fridge , yet…

Yup, i just checked, its still there. a quart of menhadden oil. getting a little crystalized. but it’s all yours if you want it.

ya ken the saying for the delaware bay is IF WIND IS OUT OF THE NORTH WEST BETTER BE WEARING A LIFE VEST.

Truth^^ I’m in for Saturday evening, can take a couple with me. But we’d have to piggy back w/Glenn, I don’t have the fancy setup (lights, etc…)

ok it is 5 30 pm thursday i am going to call joe and talk too him. i am going fishing saterday. I will be flounder fishng till dusk then drum fishing at night. will be out till to tired or weather changes . i can take 2 others on my boat, fishguy is going with me. it will be a small gas fee of 25 dollars. i am leaving my house at 1 or 1 15 to be at lewes at 230. you can either meet me at my house or lewes. on my boat all you need is lunch and few drinks. i will have some sodas snacks and hot dogs i will be suppling pole tackle and bait. so i have room for two so please post here for head count and seating. joe will have room for a few as well. my cell number is 670 8619. call me with questions or for infomation. i do not want to be leaving later than 1 15 from my house so timing is important. i will check back here later tonight but cell call is better. JOE CALL ME ASAP.

Bring warm clothes for the night and maybe an old yellow rain coat too. it keeps the wind and damp out. its still cool out there at nights.

Happy Catching!
