Foam / bubbles in sump. No microbubbles

I just set up a new tank and it’s been running 3 days. In the sump I have noticed this bubble / foam build up. Looks like a bubble bath. Based on internet research I have s few potential causes. 1 being soap or something but I’m not sure how that would have happened. 2 the way the water comes into the sump being a small area with deep water which creates bubbles. 3 this happens with new tank due to the introduction of bacteria. I also have a thought is it just from the salt.

It was way worse but the photos I took didn’t come up. So these photos are after I changed some things but still foaming .

Any ideas?

Is that water dropping down in that first picture? Assuming so, you’ve basically created a slimmer in that spot  The crashing water causes a lot of bubbles and separates out the gunk in your water. Simple solution is to move the drain under water.

Yes the water is coming in there and into that filter box, but the filter floss is causing the water to stack up I n the filter box and then the bubbles come. Its seems like it is acting like a skimmer but dumping everything back in.

OK the outlet needs to be submerged then. Let me see if I can try and do that. Its a very budget sump so innovation is key here i think. Its just a 20g with that intank filter basket, rock, and a return pump.

Just and update , I still have the bubbles. A do think its from the water pouring im like you said. This coming week I will be able to put a 5 gallons buck with a longer down pipe there to see if this stops it. just need to drill some holes first. Will report back once I test that out.

Sounds good. Keep us posted!
