We’ve been looking at various aspects of the club, our meetings, our member base, our presence in the community and are trying to find ways to enhance, improve, solidify each aspect we review.
One of the first things we heard was that some people were becoming disheartened with the frag raffles each month. Some people are exponentially luckier then others. I for one, rarely win a raffle, while others (who shall remain nameless) will win 3 or 4 frags a month.
Now we know that this announcement is not going to be well received by the lucky members, but we believe it will make things more entertaining for the rest of us.
Therefore - there will be a limit of 1 frag per person (family) per month unless all members that have purchased tickets have already won. Now with that being said we will make sure that all frags have a retail value of AT LEAST $20 - so that your investment of $5 for a raffle ticket will be well returned. If you purchase 4 you will AT LEAST break even.
Now we’ve all seen the frags that go in to these raffles - very rarely are they ever worth just $20. So we feel that everyone should still be very happy with what they get - there will just be more people going home with goodies.
Now the Golden Ticket rules don’t change. For every $20 you spend for raffle tickets you’ll get a FREE ticket in to the Golden Ticket Raffle. So if you buy 4 raffle tickets you’ll automatically be entered in to the Golden Ticket raffle. Not a bad deal. We’re trying to make sure that the Golden Ticket items will always have a retail value of at least $75 - but this will be dependent on our sponsors so you do have to bear with us a little bit.
So to recap - this month if you buy 4 raffle tickets at $5 each you have the opportunity to take home a $20 frag AND a $120 RODI unit!!!
Not a bad deal. We hope to be able to spread the frag wealth around and make the raffles more entertaining for everyone.
except for the Therefore - there will be a limit of 1 frag per person (family) per month unless all members that have purchased tickets have already won- comment, which would mean a genuine failed raffle, it’s an excellent way to approach the situation of bill anyone fixing the drawing.
I know I am new but I think the frag raffle as it is now does not work well, if it continues in the only win once till all have won, then I think we need to group all with tickets in one section so it will be easier for Craig to tell how many have not won yet maybe a group with tickets and then slide to a side once you win.
Just my 2¢
i think the raffle is very fair as is right now…and this is coming from some one that number didnt get pulled its all good there will be another time to win.im just glad to be able to go and be a part of a club with a bunch of geeks as my wife calls us.

I was not talking about the rule the rule is fine with me, I’m just saying it’s a little confusing while it’s going on.[/quote]
While I agree it certainly can be confusing - I think I do a pretty good job of keeping track
What got a little confusing last night was the rush to get it done - we ended up with a late start (my fault) and that caused me to rush through the raffle and seem a little hectic. Sorry.
I do like the idea of changing sides or something - we’ll have to work on that.
Since the club is not a for profit club, and its all for the members, why not cherry pick offers for sale by club members each month that you know would bring in the $5 tickets?
For example, I have that 7" Deresa clam that is in pristine condition (not like a clam once raffled off by a sponsor) that I wanted to sell for like $100 a while ago, obviously I don’t want to give it away but if the club offered me like $50 for it to raffle that thing would bring in more than 10 tickets I’m sure of it, and that AMAZING Acan Echina I have that I am considering selling is easily worth $150, I bet if the club offered me a fair deal it could sell tickets.
The best way to at least break even would be to promote it to the members, maybe get them all on FB and post it. Maybe get presale promises on tickets to see if its worth a club “purchase”
The whole idea behind this is that free frags donated are often free for a reason, since this isn’t a profit club why not invest a bit on nice frags straight from the members that will fetch at LEAST what was paid. This was proven effective with the MP40.
We are fortunate enough to have several members with some really nice stock willing to donate it for the good of the club. Not a bad idea Tim. Will keep it in mind for future raffles.
I like bringing home frags as much as the next guy, but…
don’t want
vs.
GOTTA HAVE!
I’ll donate red monti frags every month lol, but if you want ones that sell tickets invest a bit in them. they dont all have to be the nice ones, have a “gotta have it” coral and then the donated ones.
Well Tim - I’m sorry you don’t like our choice of frags for the raffle. I’d probably suggest not buying tickets if you are not happy with the choices.
We try to cater to everyone that comes to the meetings. Not everyone has been in the hobby for years, not everyone keeps SPS, some people choose to keep softie only tanks, I know quite a few people (myself included) that like xenia, and think it adds quite a bit of character to a tank. We choose frags that appeal to the largest number of people possible.
I’m not going to try to get a coral that looks like one that’s been photogenied on the ipad because then people get disappointed when they show up and the colors aren’t near as bright or orange as the picture.
But you’re opinions have been heard, we’ll look at getting better frags an cheaper GT prizes to make sure you have a chance to win your “gotta haves” - but if we’re buying them - we’ll be buying them from a LFS in order to continue to support Charlie, Mac, Kevin and company.
So November’s golden ticket prize will be a fancy new stick-on thermometer!!! PBJ!

I’m not trying to trash it, just trying to come up with creative ways to make it better… and Monday WAS the first time I brought out the wallet, I’d like to do that more often but I want it to be worth the dice roll. :BEER
Another option that may work is setting it up with a cup for each frag, and if noone put a ticket in for a particular frag that one can go back to whoever donated it. I know I would buy frag tickets if I could put them all on just the one I want, as I have a small tank with very limited space.
I also think we need frags to be donated or bought from retailers, the meetings have always been open to trades and sales but for the club to endorse a member that is not a retailer would not be right IMO
