Frag shelf

Why are these so expensive? Anyone find them cheap

Why can’t you buy the stuff that goes in the bottom of a florescent light from home depot? Only thing you would need to figure out is how to attach it up off the sand

I mean the clear shelf that hangs on the tank

What price range are you looking for?

You can buy the stuff for lighting from depot or lowes, however the white stuff will soon be covered in green hair algea. Buy the black stuff that you can’t buy at lowes or depot, lfs or brs sells it in black

I’ve found as cheap as $12. Just seems a lot for a square of plastic that’s probably made in China lol.

Well, little specialty items like small frag racks cost a lot because, black Acrylic is expensive, and hard to find and so is the glue. you would need to buy a much larger piece of plastic and glue than you need for a little 6 x 12 inch frag rack. but you could then make many more and sell them to club members at a discount, and recoup your cost. if you are handy with wood work. you can cut acrylic sheets on a table saw and drill the holes and then glue together with the expensive solvent/glue. I have made my own in the past, and many larger whole acrylic tanks too. its not too dificult. lots of youtube DIY vids to show you how.

But you can buy clear 1/4 inch acrylic at Home depot. they have sheets on hand from 36" x 60" and smaller. which by the way is just the right amount to build a 40 Breeder size tank with no left overs. but the acrylic alone will cost you more than a glass 40 Breeder from pet stores that have $1.00 a gallon tank sales up to 75 gallons, now and then. the two types of glue, solvent and thickened, you need will run you another $20-$40 with shipping. nobody local caries it anymore. you can get them online.

The Sticky Gooey stuff.

Give it a try, We all do DIY!!!

very true …i think i found a few on amazon that i like. i only have a few pieces id like to put on there to see if they grow much .

What are you moving? And why? What lights do you have, age of bulbs if t5, water parm? These thing all have a part in growth, color and over all heath of the animals in your tank. Moving things can make things worse and obviously better. And also be carefull frag racks can scratch your glass if sand gets behind it

Just a few pieces of zoas and hammer coral. I have led lightin. Moving to see if a different location gets better lighting

I used to take black egg crate and glue it to a mag float.

Have you tryed tweaking the lights?turn them up some?

With euphyllia it’s more about flow than light. They like gentle alternating flow. As far as hammers go, they are more sensitive to high light than most euphyllia. I’ve kept frogspawn 6" off the surface right under a 175W MH as well as on the sandbed.

I turned them up recently. The hammer is actually growing well. Just fragged a few pieces to make them separately from the big colonies.

Ended up making a few out of lexan at work, next is a corner one

those look good. doesnt have to be 1/4 inch. just enough to hold up the frags. like the lexan. Thats perfect. did you use a special glue for the lexan? or something else?

No glue at all. Actually just used a sheet metal break and bent the edges down. Then used a uni bit to make the holes

Now just trying to figure out how to use magnets

we have one exactly like that with suction cups on each side holds very well knock on wood

I put suction cups on it today. Hopefully when I get home they are still on glass and have the frags on them
