FYI RED BUGS!!!

Just a warning there are several of us that seem to be having a problem with these bastards! Treatment is underway for some of us so this should be under control soon. But this is your warning to male sure you check and dip everything!!!

Are you talking about the little tiny red mite-looking bugs that attack acros?

I have read threads on here where some people are having AEFW(acro eating flat worms), not to be confused with Red Bugs.
I believe the treatment is very different for each pest.

Warning!!!

Also, if you know that your tank is infested with either pest, PLEASE do not sell, trade, or give away any corals, frags or colony from your tank. This will help prevent the spread of these pests from entering other members tanks.

Thanks

Yes John RED BUGS! And I will not be trading any of my stuff untill all of this is gone! I will be starting treatment tomorrow night after work. That will be treatment #1

Just out of curiosity what are you guys using for treatment? Pic of the bottle would be great. Same thing as you dip with?

Interceptor used to be the treatment of choice here, but I don’t know if you can get it any more.

No need to SHOUT or take the warning personally. It was intended toward people who don’t know about these pests.
I just wanted to clarify the difference between the 2. Since there have been threads written lately, only about AEFW and not red bugs.

In my experience, many people do not want to tell that they have a pest problem going on in there tanks. This can lead to the spread of an invasion, simply by transferring the buggers on a frag to another tank. There are ways of ridding your tank of the pests and stopping them from ever coming back again. By talking and asking questions on the treatments to use for removal.

And thank you for being honest and letting members know.Good luck with the treatments.

Sorry wasn’t trying to shout. I didnt take it personal. I just wanted make sure people know this can happen to anybody!

for treatment there is
Interceptor Spectrum and Sentinal as Jason stated the original prescription Interceptor is no longer produced and hasn’t been since 2012

Interceptor Spectrum can be ordered online without a prescription.

Sentinal you would need to obtain from a veterinarian via a prescription.

This isn’t available in the states anymore. Has to be ordered from Australia. However if you have a dog you need to call your vet and ask for sentinel.(that’s all I did. Middletown animal hospital)65$for 6 pills. Its for heart worms. Only difference between the 2 is sentinel has a flea additive which is inert in the Saltwater tank.

My 1st treatment was successful! Just so some know I couldn’t catch my lobster,a few hermits and snails and they have made it through the treatment. Next treatment in 1 week and red bug free!

Update. So the reef lobster is still alive, cleaner shrimp is still alive, urchins, most of the acro crabs are also still alive. Treatment also didn’t affect bristle worms.
I did also notice a small algea bloom. Not worried about that. Hermits and snails should be able to keep up with that.

Glad to hear that everything made it thru the first treatment.

What exactly are you using for the treatment, Interceptor Spectrum or Sentinal?

Interceptor is only available for sale in Australia. I am using sentinel. 50-100lb dogs. 1 tab does between 300&400g. I used 1.5tabs for just about 400g.

Interceptor Spectrum is only sold in Australia but it is able to be ordered and shipped to USA without a RX

Most Vets here will also sell you Sentinal but only if you have had a dog seen by them, you may think just tell them it is for parasites in a fish tank
the problem is it is still a prescription and they have to prescribe it to a pet they have seen for the intent of the product

That being said whichever route you go make sure you get tablets and not chews…

Almost forgot, if you do need a dose or two check with Jason first as most likely he has a guy for that ;D

Or find a friend with a really big dog!

Actually frank I have a woman for that! :-)lol
