i think i mave have found out the hard way, but has anyone ever had success with silicone and glass baffles…
i got it cut a little big, so thats its wedged in on an angle, but it was a pain getting it to stay without really wedging it in tight…then i used the silicone to seal it…im just really think with water pressure i might have a problem…
should i have gone acrylic, or once it cures should i be in better shape?
silicone bonds MUCH better to glass than acrylic. i used acrylic for my first sump, it failed in about a year or so. my sump i have now with glass baffles i built about 3 years ago. ive never had any problems and i only used a small amount of silicone.
i was also told i should test each water chamber to make sure its sealed good. Im sure mine are sealed because i kind of went finger painting with the silicone…i was just wondering if this even really matters?
just checked the three i put in, and they arent going anywhere…i added a couple more, now i just have to wait…i guess a seals purpose is to keep the sand and all in its own chamber
I’ve used glass baffles with success. You don’t need perfect seals between each chamber, but you are correct, you want to try to keep the sand where you put it.
Be careful when working in the sump, especially moving pumps, rocks and other glass busting objects around. For some reason baffle glass seems to cut deeper and more jagged then anything else I have ever come across.
