Google, don't be evil

Do you know why there are people trying to Save the Internet? Do you know what the term, “Net neutrality” means? If not I would highly suggest looking into it.

Bottom line for me is some people are working to corrupt the interment. The direction some people would like to take the internet is so that rich and powerful companies and individuals will have lighting fast websites. While those who do not have has deep of pockets, like the Delaware Reef Club, will have very slow and sluggish websites.
Much of the internet the way it is wouldn’t have come into existence if this was how the internet was set up from day one. For instance if I remember correctly, facebook, twitter, craig’s list, and ebay all started off for a while being high trafficked websites that made little money or even lost money. They may never have come to be. Regardless if you could live without the sites above most people would agree an internet set up where the people with the most money have the fastest websites. Imagine surfing the net to try to buy a sun coral and the sites with the most money load instantly, while the smaller companies pages take forever to load!

It may seem a bit bold and out there to say, “Don’t be evil”, but the reason these specific words were chosen is because Google’s founding motto is ‘Don’t Be Evil.’
Check out these websites:

If I am not mistaken the FCC sets the guidlines on how fast data can be uploaded and downloaded. I suspect it may be possible for an ISP to offer faster speeds (assuming I am wrong about the FCC limiting) but individual web sites?? It’s all in the server the site is hosted on. If IBM wants to drop a billion and a half dollars so they’re page loads faster then DRC that is their perogative - I’m not worried about it becasue this is one of the only sites people can find me - which means they’ll keep coming back regardless of how slow our site loads :BEER

To add to what Craig said. Data on a web page is static, speeds depend only on the ISP and your network card.

The only throttling that I ever see is already in existence on direct download or streaming sites where they want you to pay to be a member and get faster streaming/DD.

The one thing I know that might suck is somebody is trying to get in place micro charges on news articles because nobody buys papers anymore and how do journalists get paid if news is free? But that is a long way off I think.

There are restriction for uploads and downloads… me and shawn ran into that problem when sharing some files…
