October when my 24 tank will be ready, I’m trying to narrow down fish to buy and this is top on list. Trying to gather information and personal expierience. The tank has roughly 3-5 inches of sand and a glass top.
So anyone have expierience with these guys? If so, will they eat inverts such as Boxer Crab , Sexy Shrimps etc…
There was a good bit of discussion on this fish almost a year ago. Some say it belongs in cooler waters and often won’t make it long in higher temps. I have never done a massive amount of research on the exact effects, but then again like many of the animals we keep there probably isn’t a ton of literature to be found.
You might get lucky and be able to keep one successfully, but with the amount of money your spending I would look into other animals. Perhaps a shrimp goby pair that are from tropical waters?
wow, i had no idea. Gotta say i’m dissapointed, but thanks you saved me some $$$. o man, I really wanted something small and high end. I always go for awesome corals, but you ever notice when people that come over say oh look at the fish, they dont even realize the corals are real , lol. If not, my family does, and i wanted a fish that ppl went wow!!!
I also had teased around with the idea of getting a blue spot for my 34g and did quite a bit of research. It seems that getting the fish quickly settled is half the battle and most sucesses entail creating an artificial burrow with some pvc under the substrate. There are quite a few success stories out there with this fish. Although it doesnt seem to be a very hard fish to keep there seem to be a LOT more stories of unexplained deaths than your average fish. A lot of people keep the fish for a year or more sometimes only to have it die with no apparent cause. Whether or not this is related to temp is anyone’s guess.
I definitley appreciate you wanting to get something a little more high end, thats exactly what i did with my 34g. Check out the golden assessor or maybe the blue assessor. Ive got a golden in my tank and its extremely hardy. Its a little pricey and even harder to find but defintiely a show stopper. Ive also got a pair of yasha gobies. These things are amazing and almost equally as uncommon as the assessors but not quite as pricey. Again, extremely hardy fish.
Came across a Trimma Cana and quickly picked him up after the lfs employee fed him flakes n he readily accepted!!! Acclimating now, will post pics when he’s in the tank and visible lol
