from shawn. putting them into an established 75. with starry blenny, 4" yellow tank, 6 line wrasse and a flame hawk.is this sensible, or are they too aggressive?
I would see if you could get his LTA to go with them as they seem really attached and being the newcommers they should be OK
i don’t have room in the tank for a huge nem
no other comments aggression-wise???
DONT do it!! they will bit you!! and knock your stuff over. They are by far the most agressive of all clownfish. i had a small one, >3 inches, it would bit me every once and a while and scare me out of the tank.
I thought he was just worried about tank mates, it’s given that anything from outside the tank comming in will be bitten and bite hard …
Had a big nasty female, finally took her to the bowl. Way aggressive. And they do bite!
I think it’s just like any fish they can be aggressive and can be nice. Paul you saw how mine are they couldn’t be any nicer never bite me even with eggs and my hand touches the anemone. They chase some fish and don’t bother others. The female did knock a coral off three times while I was watching too lol. Just put the coral somewhere else. I think you will be fine do a pair and give them a nem. if they are mean someone will take them. My starry blenny bites me all the time.
Paul they will be aggressive twards other fish that get anywhere near there anem. If there anything like mine and alot of people I’ve talked to have the same issue they actaully will bite pieces off the anem as well. True mated pairs play very nice with each other though and are interesting to watch. ::
Half to agree with Brett and Joe they do and will bite if your cleaning the tank but most of the clowns will. My pecullas did as well, the only ones I’ve had that played nice with my arm was skunks they seem to be pretty easy going.
Anyone who gets attacked by your fish do you hand feed your fish maybe that’s why they are nice because I hand feed a lot. The only fish that bites me is the starry. And when I’m picking up rocks the yellowtail damsel will pull my arm hairs lol. But all the other fish I’ve had, have never bitten me
My bite anytime you get near there host anem, doesnt matter if there hungry or they have a full belly.
Lol not that they’re hungry just that they associate your hand as friendly, never bite the hand that feeds you. I hold the food in my hand sometimes and they eat while I hold it especially the female. I can put my hand down by the anemone while they have eggs and they don’t touch me. They watch my hand and swim around.
when i got frags/colonies from shawn he wouldnt go near the hosting nem. the clowns watched him like hawks. As much as i’m in my tank i will never get another gold stripe again.
dunk- is yours a gold stripe or just a maroon. the gold stripes are meaner from what i hear but since i have never had a regular maroon i couldnt compair the two.
My female is a white and the males a gold
I’ve had trouble before putting my hands in 200gallon tanks because of gold stripe maroons. I wouldn’t ever recommend them. Also wouldn’t take them for my own even if the were free or I was given $100 to take them.
Last summer when club took a trip to Atlantis Marine World, co Owner Joe said that he will dive into piranas tank to clean it any day, but hates to go into maroon clowns tank. Maybe maroons will be good for mine, since I rarely put my hands in it.LOL

Not really my health and safety, but my own comfort. Working in my tanks can at times be a calming relaxing experience. Some people like to be tortured, some like to be tied up and whipped, some may even like getting bit as they work on their tank, but not me.
If it was a species of fish that may make a little nip a couple occasionally and it doesn’t ever break the skin, that’s not too bad. I’ve bled from clownfish bites in the past. Maroons are often out not to warn you to stay away, but to take a piece of you to make sure you never consider it again. I’ve seen maroons that will seem to go after you if you stand near the tank.
I already have a huge eel that will kill any fish that go in with it and a purple tang that I won’t even try with any single fish and plan to only add fish with him when I have a 5-6 to put in at once. I’m personally just looking for peaceful fish at this point. I’ve “rescued” a ton of fish in the past and just being a bit more fussy now.
put them in the tank. they flew to my speckled bta, from jon, in a couple minutes and are buried there. pics after lights on.
best shot out of 20
Woo hoo conrats just hand feed them they can be sweethearts
