green bubble algae

what is good to combat it? i purchased a zooanthid frag from that pet place and well i didnt notice it in the store… nor did i notice it the next day but 2 days later i noticed about 4 green bubbles and 1 big piece of aptasia… i killed the aptasia with the kalk that ian had given me and now i got 2 emerald crabs to eat the bubble algae and it seems like they have yet to find it… i noticed today one of the bubbles has popped off and is flying around my tank is it fine to scoop it out and just throw it away? i was thinking about on wednesday when i get paid to purchase another 2 crabs (already have 2) do u think 4 should be sufficent for a 90 gallon tank?

Scoop it out just don’t pop them in the tank. You can also take the frag out of the DT and physically remove the bubble algae. Just have about 4 small buckets of water to wash the coral off in. It can be water change water or fresh but I personally would save some of the old water change water. Separate into 4 containers, remove the bubbles trying not to break them. Scrape the area on the pug they were at to remove any stragglers and dip vigorously in the 4 baths. Then place back in the main tank.

its hard to scrape the areas because it is full of zoos! its like a larger frag plug tat is overflowing with zoos they were kinda pretty before they all closed up due 2 the bubble algae

I’m gonna have to agree with Al, I’ve managed to get both kinds from some folks I’ve gotten frags from (I won’t name any names!) and only noticed a few. I did what Al has just suggested and it has seemed to work.

Do NOT try to get it off in the tank cause it is filled with some pus like fluid that I’m pretty sure is filled with more spores.

I used a scalpel and actually cut off that piece of the rock, in a separate container.

if its filled with a pus that puts out more spores how are emerald crabs suppose 2 eat it without popping it? that seems confusing to me ???

Like eating a whole egg. I dunno maybe they can eat the new spores fast enough?

Pull them off and DON’T pop them they will triple there amount in a very short tiime. verdict_in

The emeralds DO pop them, but when the spores start to grow the emeralds eat them while they are little (theoretically).

Personally I am suffering a HUGE outbreak of bubble algae because I accidentally popped one in my tank.

I’ve heard of a fish eating it as well - but for the life of me I can’t remember what ted said it was.

Rabbitfish will eat it, but generally speaking they get huge.

FoxFace will obliterate bubble, about 2 years ago I had bubble in our 75, it was literally in mats all over the tank, and you could peel it up like a carpet.
We tried everything even emerald crabs. I think it was 1 per 10 gallons of water. But they did nothing for us. Might be because we had so much of it. (Just our experience with them).
Then we got our foxface that Ted has now. The foxface wiped it out. The only thing is, we talked to Jon about it and it all depends on where the foxface was harvested from in the wild (that info I do not know). All I know is that we bought him from DPA.

Do whatever you have to do, not to get this stuff to take over your tank. It might seem harsh and some will not agree. Break the rock, take the rock out completelly and salvage what you can.
