Hard tubes

They like like worms or feather dusters… the stuff that comes out the end is either white or a mix between white black and gray. the tubes grow like crazy… any ideas?

Ill post pics soon

Vermitid snails?

uhh, dunno, the tubes grow… a lot and fast

Do they put out ‘feathers’ like feather dusters or like a stringy mess like a spiders web?

Vermitids aren’t really ‘fast’, but they end up being in large numbers. They put out like a string to catch food.

I had some feather dusters that had a population explosion in my 75g they were a tan-ish tube with a brownish feather.

We really need some pics and I bet we could ID what they are.

John google “Vermetid images”. Also take a look at this page.(Bottom left next to Sea Apple) Your likely dealing with vermetids. They are actually snails that do not move too much. They come in a varity of sizes. I had a ton in the past. Many people consider them a pest and go to great length to remove them. One of the few benefits to keeping hermit crabs in the tank, they eat them. They should start to disappear on their own now that you are reducing the amount you feed and soon increasing your filtration. You can crush there shells when you see them if you would like.

kindof looks like that… i think it looks more like a feather duster i will get pic soon
