Henry vs Marlin(Rifles)

Since I broke my system down a couple years ago due to health reason, and sold the boat last spring, I’ve decided I need to start… actually re start another hobby. I haven’t been hunting, or even shooting for many years, in fact the last weapon I shot was my M-14(obviously its been a while). I’ve had a number of guns early in my life, mostly mauser actions from a MS and Springfield 03A3 in .30-06 and a couple Rems in .243 and .270. These were all great guns, but I realized my favorite gun(s) to walk through the Pa. woods/hunt, was a Win. 94 30-30, and a Colt single action .45 revolver. I started doing some research and quickly learned the Winchester no longer makes the '94, so I started looking at Marlin. The problem I’ve read with Marlin is that since they were bought out by the Freedom Group(Remminton) in '07/'08, their quality has suffered greatly. I’ve read a lot of good review about Henry, but, I’m not too happy with the method they use for loading(although its not a deal breaker). I was thinking about either a .45-70 or a .30-.30(I know, big difference), and was considering the Henry https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/45-70-lever-action/ or https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/the-henry-3030/, or (depending on feedback) the Marlin Page Not Found or Page Not Found. Any opinions and/or feedback is greatly appreciate, thanks.

If you know you like Winchester 94, look for a used one and have it professionally reconditioned.

I did think about that, but the used, pre '64 94’s are as much, or more(sometimes a lot) than buying one of the models I’m looking at, I think in part, because they’ve become a collector’s item.

They are both tried and true manufacturers and ive never had an issue with any marlin or henry. I think its all a matter of what shoulders up better for you. have you gotten hands on these at a store yet? Thats always what seals the deal for me is how well it “pops” into place when i pull it up

Jim when you decide what you want let me know, i have a guy that is normally cheaper then most stores. And if her doesnt have it he get it

I will have to/want to look at these before I make a decision, but no one in this area seems to carry them. In fact, they don’t even advertise that they carry that manufacturer…probably because they aren’t know for making shot guns, or AR’s, Bushmasters, etc.

Thanks Jason, that’s good to know. I also have to find out what I have to do to buy a gun in the first place, i.e. background checks, etc. here in Delaware.

Cabelas should have some in stock. And delaware is easy, they just call it in when you purchase the gun and as long as you are good, you walk out with a new gun. Not sure if you are real new but Cabelas is like half hour tops from Smyrna.

As stated above! Walk in fillout the 4473 they make a call and if all is good you go home with your new toy! Pistols, shotguns, ar15 all of them walk in fillout the form and walk out! Screw New Jeresy!

Hmmm, they do have a Marlin 336C in a .35 remmington, not a .45-70, but more than the 30-30. I will go take a look at that one.

Geez, that would be a lot easier than Jersey.
