So while waiting for my son to get off work in Fox Run, I decided to check out a LFS I haven’t been in in a while.
I now remember why not. All of their SW display tanks were filled with cyano. I mean literally filled, it looked like they were growing it. With the exception of 1 or 2 cheap beat up looking softies they had no coral for sale. The one nice piece they had - a 9 inch wide beautiful toad stool wasn’t for sale. I asked for a price and was told they weren’t selling it they were going to frag it. Needless to say I was completely disappointed with everything in the store and won’t be back for another year now.
Oh and I looked at light for my wifes tank as hers crapped out on Sunday - no I didn’t fo4get the S they had 1 light for a 30" tank. A “state of the art” power compact fixture!!! I literally could not get out of there fast enough.
Oh and if you were curious - - Yup still PHENOMENALLY over-priced.
Last time i was there, I noticed a hippo tang covered in ich stuffed into one of their 10gallon display cubes. The main system’s water was treated with copper and bright green. Depressing considering I used to love to visit that store when i was younger.
yup visited there a couple weeks ago…smelled like stale air/death. never really liked the place, but figured id give it another shot…nope still didnt like it, needless to say wont be back unless im in the area and in need for a good laugh.
Shame, the old system they had wasn’t pretty but was usually clean. They spent all that money and let it go. CAn’t say much about the pricing, it’s always been like that. ???
I was just in there today to get a mouse for my beardie, its about the only reason I ever stop in for all the above reasons. The girlfriend stays in the car because she doesn’t like the smell. I would sure like to have that toadstool though! (but not for the $200 they would want were it for sale!)
Hey. how much did they want for Cyano? Im running low…
that is a shame. i had high hopes while they were building the tanks. filtrations still needs tweaking, and denitrating and dephosphating. mega fuges would help.
And it was such a shame. There was a guy in there dropping about $200 on dry goods at the time - and I just wanted to grab him by the shoulders and shake him.
Haven’t been there in a while, i’m glad, it sounds as if it still smells in there like somebody threw up on a pile of sh*t … do you think they notice it? or have they built up a tolerance like the mushroom farmers in PA?

I’m sure they don’t even notice anymore. And in their defense with the retile room in the back you’d be a fool to not expect it to smell. But they could do something, make an effort at least, to try to mask the smell with a candle or something.
