How do I acclimate my tank to new bulbs?

That says it all. Is there A process to changing bulbs?

I’ve heard diff things… t5’s one row a week, new halides shorten the photo period, and of course ramp down led’s.
what are you switching?

Ok so I got ushio lamps,I happen to have the par meter and checked the old bulbs and then checked these new ones.if I was to say that the new lamps aren’t much different in the par out put then the old would anybody believe me?i will try to put up some grafix up when I get a chance

How old are the"old" bulbs? And are they the same brand?

And I remember reading that MH bulbs need some running time to reach their peak output. So maybe try the par test after they have some hours on them.

Yes I’d believe it. depending on the type of light - the issue with bulbs getting older isn’t the par dropping off dramatically but rather the spectrum shifting and corals not getting enough beneficial spectrum.

The old bulbs are from Xmas, they were eBay specials 20k and these new bulbs are ushio 20k, ok so it’s not the par of the bulb that changes but the spectrum of the bulb? What is the amount of time needed for a burn in time?

I read this on Marine Depot website.

My MH bulb does not come on right away and takes a long time to come on is it defective?

New bulbs will be going through a “burn-in” period and this should only last for two to four days. During the burn in period, it may take a while for the bulbs to turn on and they may turn off after initially firing. This is absolutely normal and the ballast should be left on. After a while, the bulb will fire again. After the burn in period the bulbs should fire right away for you.
