How often do you take your pumps apart to clean and inspect?
I should WAY more often. It is usually when something doesn’t work right. I end up cleaning them every 6-9 months in reality. That is probably why things don’t work right. :

+1 with Scott. I’m sure if it’s easily accessible it would probably be clean regularly, but since some are not most of the time…it wouldn’t be touch until something goes wrong with it. But I do think it should be clean regularly especially the power heads.
I think i will clean some stuff this week. I sometimes just swap out circulation pumps so I can clean them whenever I get to it. My return pump is loosing performance. I have been considering an external pump on a future tank but not sure if there is a big advantage over the in sump pump.
External pump won’t put heat in the water,the heat just stays under the tank in the stand
the externals are good unless you need the heat like i do verdict_in
We’re supposed to clean our pumps?
Heck this time of year my tank is lucky to get topped off with any regularity.
If my fish get fed twice a week they’re very happy.
