HR 669

Hi guys,

You may wish to take a minute to voice your opinion on this legislation. Resources are available here:

Joe

Thanks for the link Joe. Marty sent me an email that had some info about the bill to. Its no joke, they want to ban ANYTHING that is not native to the US. This includes pretty much any of the fish and corals in our tank, and would put most aquaculture businesses out of business. And this is not just our hobby that is affected, it includes a lot of things. You will no longer be able to get fresh talipia, it will have to be frozen and imported, because talipia is not native to the US and people would no longer be able to breed and sell them. This is a very short sighted bill, and it will put thousands of people out of business and their hobbies.

It really is short sighted, and you’re correct, it will affect more than just fish. This isn’t the place for politics, but something like this needs to be on the minds of people like us. No more corals, no more fish, no more live rock, no more reptiles, birds, pretty much anything non-native.

Use the link provided for a sample e-mail to send to your legislators. There is also a search function in case you don’t know how to contact them.

never pass as is. even if it does, very few of the species we keep in our aquariums could thrive/spread in our native waters. therefore would not be added to the list of “banned” species. but something to keep an eye on either way.

write to yr congressman, not JUST here, b/c we all probably agree what a terrible bill it is. create change by speaking to the ones who have the power.

Just like lion fish couldn’t be introduced to the Atlantic… also, it states that any species likely to bring in a pathogen could be banned, which would include pretty much everything in our tanks.

…still stand by my statement… won’t pass. nothing to get worked up about.

Yup - I got an e-mail from Salty Supply about it as well. Apparently there is a consortium that has an informaitonal video on You Tube as well. I just can’t get to it from work to put it up.
