So, there’s a hurricane coming…
Who’s ready?
I’m trying to get my tanks waves to 9-14 feet but so far its been a mess, can’t always match nature exactly!!
:BEER
am ready for hurricane, but only short one. My backup battery can only hold for 5 hours.
Talking about waves, I seen on you tube some people create waves on rimless tanks, is that safe? Or long term effect on even glass tanks with brasses.
I’ve heard of stands collapsing with wave makers set so bad they create the “sliding back and forth in your bath tub” motion.
I’ll be down surfing Thursday morning!

No back up here. But i do have lots of LED flash lights i can hang over tanks. one day i need to buy a deep cycle marine battery and a 700 watt inverter to run some basic lights and pumps on the tanks for a long outage. they can and have gone a day with no power and no harm. longer and mine start to suffer more. I think the plenum sandbeds help ease the pain.
But, if a big storm is coming, i could turn off the DIY wave maker and save some power. been playing with it, almost got the waves just right!
A little higher and I could launch the boat!
You know, I’ve always wanted to try being in this guys place, for some reason, Just once…
But if anyone wants to get some back up equipment, nows the time. when the lights go out, the stores are instantly sold out of anything that might help.
Have the generator and extension lines in the basement just need to pick up some gas if they predict it to be head on. From the latest reports it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a big deal at all. Slow news day, so it was hyped up a bit, but we’ll see.
I surfed Brigantine nj yesterday with the kids, nice waves not too rough, but got my backside handed to me just the same.
so just looked at the projected path, looks like a windy and rainy weekend

Just Friday, the storm will be gone by Sat.
Cool video Andrew, i didn’t know DE got surf like that even with a storm!
Just about anywhere can get big waves with a big storm. I know probably 60 people who likely requested off for a block of days the second the storm was announced. Got to know a lot of surfers growing up in a beach town.
When I first started my undergrad I had a part time job at Staples. My boss hadn’t missed a day of work from being sick in about 10 years. That being said he would show up for work with wet hair anytime there was a storm around(not from the rain, but because he had just left the beach) and he wouldn’t waste any time getting out of there.
Just remember that white “cone” of uncertainty means the storm can take any of that area as its main track.
Love hurricanes, I was on the beach during hurricane Floyd years ago lol good times.

I was down on the outer banks in 99’ 2 days before Floyd hit surfing a break called “S-turns” in Rodanthe; It was the first time I’d been in waves over 10ft. I paddled out and remember thinking to myself what the hell did I just do! haha It is kinda scary when sneaker sets come through; A consistent series of waves will be coming in around the same height then all of a sudden you will see waves 20-35% larger appear; these waves will break further out and it’s your signal to paddle like mad.

I took some pictures a few weeks ago last time a major swell hit; it was around-7-10ft with some larger waves coming in. Wish that I had better pictures but my gf isn’t a very good photographer!
(I’m standing in the water, so you can have a perspective of the size of the waves.)
Cool pics and video. Gettin ready for the storm.

I will bring my camera tomorrow morning, it should be perfect conditions with the wind and swell direction. You really need a high power lens to capture the action.
