I’ve been looking at skimmers for a while now, and it seems like the Cone Skimmers are the wave of the future. I will be getting a skimmer and am HIGHLY considering getting a cone skimmer. I am thinking of getting one of the SWC cone skimmers, they seem to be the most bang for your buck and i have not heard anything bad about them.
I was also looking as the Eshopps cone skimmer. I haven’t done enough research on it to know how good they are, but they seem to work pretty well.
Any opinions? Can anyone share their experiences, please? thanks again, Brett
Brett, I have the Eshopps and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything either lol… They are both Really nice skimmers so it is really what you prefer. I just got the smaller Eshopps skimmer to use in the 40 im setting up.
the only thing that concerns me about the Eshopps is that ive read they can get a bit tempermental, but it is a skimmer, takes time to break in and what not. But i’ve seen pictures of the skimmate, almost black in color.
Im leaning towards the SWC but im going to do some more research, from the sounds of it i cant go wrong.

If your going with a cone, go with the SRO. What size tank/system is this on?[/quote]
x2 on your tank size brett. and SWC skimmers are sweet. i should have gotten one again, my MSX250 (same thing as swc) was incredible on a 400 gal system
Would you guys say the SWC are better then the Bubble Kings? Obviously they are less expensive, but I am wondering if there is any disadvantage of the SWC as opposed to the Bubble Kings.
The tank is a 90 gallon sps dominate along with a few LPS, Zoa, Shrooms, and Clams (or at least it will be once its set up). It should be a med-high bioload. I will be plumbing in another tank or two (fuge/sump and Frag tank).
ARGHH Maties! All those skimmers sound swell. Lots of new ones to hook on to. Let me flop this one on the deck while we are at it. Just came accross this website with what looks like a real good DIY Cone Skimmer kit with Siccy pinwheel pump.
I don’t like SWC because they use siccee pumps. The bubble blaster, askol and red dragon are the top 3 skimmer pumps. The SRO with bubble blaster pumps are the cheapest in price but very comparable to a bubble king. YahoO IMO the bubble king isn’t worth double the money.
What is wrong with the siccee pumps? I swore I read a review that said the pumps that come with the SWC are good. My memory isn’t the strongest though.
Well thanks for making my choice even harder, haha. Now i cant deside between the SRO or SWC. I dont think i can go wrong with either, just going to have to do some more research.
Sicce pumps have had some issues, starting/stopping/noise/efficiency etc. They are good pumps, but the bubble blaster, askol and red dragon are better!

I looked into a bubble king with a red dragon pump, cost twice as much and didnt pull as much air as the ascoll pump that came with mine and the same size as the bubble king I was looking at

Mine came with a askol pump and pulls more air then the comparable red dragon pump.
Perhaps the other pumps make less noise because they pull less air and make less bubbles. Bill likes to get skimmate, pepshrimp likes to make less noise in his Mom’s house so she doesn’t kick him out. I personally want a skimmer to pull more air, so I can deal with the noise factor.
Im leaning towards the Bubble blaster over the sicce. the bubble blaster has a 3 year warranty where as the sicce has 1 year. The 2000 has a little bigger footprint then what i was looking for but the bubbleblaster is worth the extra space.
