I BROKE THE RULES!

At LEAST 6" between Galaxea and other corals. 5.5" away was not enough. Luckily I may have caught it before serious damage was done to one of my favorite corals. Note this was a from a 1.5" coral max. Frags will be available soon! Check market place.

What was the other corals, Jon?

yeah you should see my galaxea its banished to the corner in timeout

You mean what corals that got whacked by the Galaxea? It was just one and I believe it was a Pavona, but I’m not sure. In this video I made a couple of days before you can see the Galaxea already reaching for it. The sweepers doubled in length the next day.

Coral that got hit.

I’d never seen sweepers that long on such a small colony. It appears the coral it hit a couple times will be perfectly fine. It was healthy to begin with so it had significant energy reserves. It is also won’t I’ve only fragged once or twice in years so it is never stressed by that. I took video of it attempting to sting, but didn’t get video of it actually making contact. My camera ran out of battery and I wasn’t going to let it continue to attach my coral while I charge my camera.

I have the same encrusting coral. As pictured in the back ground of the acro. I was wondering the same as to what it is. I came across this link below and by the description I think it may be Hydnophora pilosa.

Hum… it looks similar in many ways. The overall colony shape is a bit different and the color is far off, but that could be wild vs captive and the lighting I use… I dunno. They did use the same word I use to describe it: "Tentacles are extended day and night; they are long and shaggy and of uniform length. " Thanks for sharing.

I would really like to swap with you if you ever have a frag. See if they look the same in the same conditions.

Sure, Jon. I’ll see if I can get one.
