thies little guys are popping up around my tank. Kinda Scard , Kinda nervouse, kinda confused LoL was wondering if anyone has an idea what it is… i aslo seen one pop up on one of my zoas. but didnt sting anything. it has long clear arms with tiny white tips. shoud be center of pic.
Club tipped anemone’s AKA strawberry anemone’s… never had a problem with them and have hundreds.
I have found these in my tank also in the shaded area’s. I was wondering what it was since mine are all in spots I can not get a picture of.
99% of the time they are never an issue. I did however have an issue with them one time.
They typically stick to dark areas and are like a non-photosynthetic corallimorph( aka mushroom coral). They are very similar to discoma, rhodactis mushrooms. Someone that loves SPS and LPS ONLY and hates soft corals and wants to get rid of everyone… may still never have an issue with them because they hang out in dark areas. The rare instance, and I mean rare, that you may not want these guys in your tank…Let me give my example:
The issue I had was with a non-photosynthetic coral, Tubastrea or sun coral to be specific. These guys like to feed just like other many other mushroom corals and sun coral. Since I spot feed my suncoral they were doing well and stinging the sun coral. I eventually fragged them off, throw them in my softy system and the Tubastrea back in the “low nutrient” system. I suppose what may have helped me was to acclimate the coral to being in a bright area of the tank.(which is possible, but often not desirable.) If any type of “mushroom” coral gets lose and settles in on an SPS colony, the battle usually only goes one way and you are left with some dead SPS coral. This is why I don’t keep any in with my stony corals.
So 99% of the time they are a cool harmless hitchhiker that is more likely to stick around and do well if you spot feed them.
wow thanks guys for the info, they are kinda cool looking. im happy they are not a major threat.
