i want to turn my mega flow sump rated for 110g tank into a fuge i never used it, my tank has a 10g tank with about 20lbs of LR. filter sock and a small t5 light. i want to start useing the mega flow sump and also turn it into a fuge . but i also want to run the asm mini protien skimmer. i dont ming fabricating it but im not sure where to put the skimmer in the first compartment, middle. i would put it in the last but it wont fit unless i cut out the existing wall and put a new one. or if i put it in the first one i have to cut the top for the skimmer to fit. but i wasnt sure i could put the skimmer before the fuge. and what type of light ? any pointers please. thank you i have a 72g bow.and i am not going to use bioballs just live rock live sand and a light Saint:)
Well you’ve asked a question with 2 very distinctive points of view.
The first (and right one ;D ) is that the skimmer should be in the first compartment to get the dirtiest water.
The second (and not as right as the first one ;D ) is that the skimmer should come AFTER the fuge thus giving cheato and other macro algaes all the nutrients they need to grow.
It’s really just a matter of preference. One thing I have seen done with sumps/fuges in the past is to have the tank drain in to the middle compartment which houses the skimmer. Have the fuge on one side and the return section on the other.
I can’t see the picture (darn work web filters) so I don’t know if that’s an option for you or not.
The skimmer should not go in the last comparment (or the same compartment with your return pump) as a skimmer will need a constant water level to operate effectively.
Thanks Craig
