This is a fantastic idea! I chaparoned a trip for my sons BS troop to the Adventure Aquarium last year and they loved it. It wasn’t just the sharks but all of the fish, they ‘oooed’ and ‘ahhed’ like a bunch of little girls. The aquarium also did not have much in the line of corals, which I think they would enjoy just as much.

This is the trip my son walked around saying “My dad has one of those” and the other kids were astonished.

Jon, think Charlie would be interested in letting us put a DT in PA? You and Andy are there enough that maintainenance shouldn’t be a HUGE issue, of course we’d all stop in andhelp. Maybe everyone could donate a frag and chip in for a fish or two, put a sign on it that says “Maintained by the DRC” and place business cards with contact info for membership information.

I am about to be done with my 92, maybe he can give us a corner and we can use it?

The Boy scout trip is a cool idea…

You can’t expect Jon and Andy to maintain a tank under the premise of the DRC name while Charlie pays them. Then its becomes Premium Aquatics Display tank maintained with Charlie’s money that DRC said they would take care of… We would have to get permission and have to have members maintain it. Here is where it get iffy; if the tank starts to get dirty because of lack of maintenance, his store looks bad.

I also posted this in the officer forum but will throw it out here too. Since there is a desire to get involved; What about some sort of community/environment clean up. Up north we has the annual Christiana River Clean-up we could do. Don’t they have some sort of Rehoboth bay thing down at the beach??

This another way we can wet out feet with some community involvement and see what the turnout would be.

well here is a prob with the boyscouts i have 2 kids one is a girl. and she is in the girl scouts. how about we drc start a club for kids called the gill scout or reef scouts who knows we might start something that is contagous. i think if you guys continue to have boring meetings at the library and al’s house people arnt gonna come. how about splitting the meeting and having it upstate and downstate or in the middle so north and south can drive equally. no offense but a you live where most meeting are held so it is easy for you to attend and you wont mind being there because you live there but what about everybody else. and how about instead of just officers having say ( the little click) it should be a member vote on which way the club goes and how the money is spent. how about doing flyers advertisement something nobody knows about this club. the club has to draw in the younger crowd because older members wont last forever. and this club is not realy growing to me except the site and forumns. kids are our future! i will get in contact with every school in de till i find one then i will do the research on donations . i will donate my brand new 90g setup and if they dont want that there are as rawdawg said teacher who might get involved and let us keep a small nano tank. i’m sure we could get help from a ton of places on supplies and everything we need. i dont understand how you can be in a hobby where you have to stay optomistic to have success but then be pestimistic on something for kids. the thing is the school tank will work everyone is just set in there mind it wont and with that attitude drc will fail. lets face it this club does nothing for the community at all but wants the community to get involved. i’m starting to think that im sitting at a dinner table drinking coffe with a bunch of people who talk about things and have these big ideas but never follow thru to see if it will work. is everyone in this club out for there selves or are they scared of a chalenge. what if columbus saif f it and turned around. hell what if rosa parks would have just sat down on the bus.

The blind thermos trade main principle is to mail a thermos around to ship surprise coral. I and most members would not want to PAY to ship something down the street. If you read the whole quote it states “advanced list”. In my original objection, I didn’t object to getting an unknown coral but to paying to trade a coral. I was basing the response on the original premise of a raffle or semi 50/50. Instead of bringing cash, bring a coral. So instead of $10 by 10 people for a prize of $100 you have 10 softy corals by 10 people for a coral pack of softies as a prize.

I have asked many times for people to get a meeting location down south. It was not mentioned as the Boy Scouts was to meet the needs of everyone in the community. Second there is no “click”, there are objections or constructive criticisms to your ideas and you think you are being crucified. Third Rosa Parks Did just sit down, what she didn’t do was stand to give a white passenger a seat.

On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James Blake’s order that she give up her seat to make room for a white passenger. Her action was not the first its kind: Irene Morgan, in 1946, and Sarah Louise Keys, in 1955, had won rulings before the Supreme Court and the Interstate Commerce Commission respectively in the area of interstate bus travel. But unlike these previous individual actions of civil disobedience, Parks’ action sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Well al I do get a lil pissed when you and the rest of yuppies in this club shoot me down why because anything that someione whoi isn’t prez or on board says. Your tank looks like shit! And your the prez all you can do is quote shit and provide links. I pray for the day a new club comes because this one is nothing but haters!

I for one resent the “Yuppie” comment. Al as the president does a great job of making sure we have as much information about this hobby as possible.

You on the other hand never seem to care about doing any research or listening to any advice. Christ you just tried to give someone a tank that leaks without the courtesy of mentioning it leaks. What if it was someone new to the hobby that doesn’t know to wet test a tank first?

Instead of sitting here bad mouthing people, and wishing a new club would come along, get off your dead ass and start one. Oh wait - you won’t do that because it requires too much work, if somethig went wrong you’d just give it to someone else and start over instead of trying to fix it.

Why on earth would we want to have a meeting at your shop. You allowed your children in to someone else’s house, to tease the dog, throw balls on the roof, and disrespect the host and his wife. What would we be in for if we came to your place?

We generally choose members houses to have meetings because they have something to show us. As far as I can tell from reading your posts the only thing you could show us would be what you recently purchased, becasue as far as I can tell you can’t grow anything.

i’m growing stuff quite well now actually because the reason for my last prob was figured out i just didnt post it (emerald crabs are eating the polyps seen 2 eating at the same time) all of my lps are doing great and growing. some of the corals are from the 55 that was leaking so dont think everything is dieing.

everyone is smart on here but when i see people at pa they smile and are very talkative never like here.

the point is i know i’m very inexperienced. but everyone in the club but like 3 actually have nice tanks and except there own advice. just sick of everybody saying no when they havent even tried. i feel like i’m dealing with my kids who love to look at roller coasters but are scared to get on the ride.

if i started a tank at a school on my own with no help from drc why would i put there name on it?

Ive read most of your posts, and i think everyone who has read your posts would have the same opinions. You are all over the place. You dont follow through with anything. For example, you offered the 55g to me, a short time later you reposted it again for free, then an hour after someone said the wanted it you said you gave it away on craigslist. If your all about the DRC, why did you list it on craigslist when members were interested? Thats insane. I think sometimes you talk just to hear your own voice. Why are you so passionate about what we are going to do in the future when you said your moving in a couple of months? Lastly, your unbelievably derogatory, especailly towards AL. Im very passionate about this hobby and this club. I would love to have a bigger role, but never in a million years would i want to take Al’s place. He has done a LOT for this club and does a really good job and your comments are really beginning to rub me the wrong way.

I have noticed over the past 2 weeks that my millie is starting to branch like crazy. Almost all of the main branches have new ones budding along the length as well as at the tips. I am not sure if this is due to do the t-5 lighting or the increased flow from the mp40. I moved this coral over from the 39 about 4-6 weeks ago.

I noticed that with my Greg Hillar Aqua Delight when I increased the flow in my nano, the coral is starting to branch out a little, being that it’s a 1.5" frag.

BTW, if you decide to frag some of the millie I would be interested. YahoO
