I have two that need IDs. Neither have been harmful, but one looked realling cool in Premium Aquatics, and hes doing well it my tank.
The second one is these little guys that multiplied for a little while, and then stopped. They actually catch Chaeto Grass and eat it when they do get their little “hands” on one.
any ideas?
You can see them better when you expand them.
well the white looking thing in the 1st appears to be a muchroom - maybe a ricordia. The large mass behind it is an SPS of some sort - I’m horrible at coral IDs.
The 2nd are palyothoas - or palys for short -they’re like zoanthids but bigger. Do they actually eat the cheato or do they just catch it? I’ve never seen a paly eat.
the green coral in the first photo is pavona
The brown SPS in the back looks to be a Pavona type, (Cactus, lettuce).
I never heard of palys eat cheato either. However, I do feed mine meaty food sometimes.
Because I know this tank really well (its my little brothers), in the first pic, the pale green / white is a ricordea that use to be more blue/greenish. For some reason it has started to bleach and we can’t figure out why… What I think he is curious about is the brown/green blob behind it. He told me it was a pavona after he bought it, but it looks nothing like the Pavona I got from Dr. Mac. Maybe its just a different type or something not real sure.
Edit: What I got from Dr. Mac was a Pavona maldivensis, and what he has looks to be a Pavona decussatus maybe?
