Increased growth of staghorn Acropora in higher phosphate levels

Maybe a good new for Acros grower with little high phosphates levels.

Since it was only for 4 months, that is interesting to see that one particular acro did grow faster in a higher phos enviorment. But in our hobby we tend to keep our tanks setup, hopefully for a much longer period of time, therefore, the higher phos levels bring us right back to having nuisance algae problems.
I think I will wait a little longer for my acros to grow out and be nuisance algae free.

Well, plants in the flowering stage utilize higher Phosphate levels . . . it’s interesting how plantlife and algae will use nitrates to flourish, and some will use phosphates. It seems reasonable that some corals would use/adapt to use these chemicals to flourish as well, since they similarly use chlorophyll for energy production.
