Insert Carl Orff O’fortuna.
it looks awesome, how about a video so we can get an idea of the flow? What do you think of is so far?
I like it and I’ll start with that, BUT I think it is over hyped and not worth half the money it cost.
The wireless is only for syncing to additional units (no brainer there) but every unit you buy is the master stand alone, its not like they sell slave only wireless units.
Also the flow is a wide berth which is fine but in my tank the linear flow dies half way and the left side of the tank is rather dead, not the insane flow all around I was expecting. You can set it to wave which is nice and can really perform if you don’t have water line high rock formations like I do and your water line is no where near the top of the tank, again like mine is.
BUT, I have as much flow now with 1 power head that is pretty much hidden that I did with 3 large in the way power heads.
Feed mode, night flow mode (self timed) and several other modes make it a great unit (still not worth the high price) BUT all in all, if I had to rate it on a scale of 1-10 I’d only shave 2 points off for price and call it an 8.
If I could go back a week and re-order I would have done what I wanted to do and get 2 mp10’s and put them on the back facing foward synced, that would have been like 2 nano cubes side by side with more diverse flow. And would have cost the same.
Sweet. I know someone back in NY that uses 2 of them on his tank and loves them. No heat transfered to the water at all and very powerful. Looks good in your tank. That EcoSmart driver, is that used for changing the speed?
2 would be great and I recommend it, still would have loved to have 0 dead spots for the price…
How far do you have it turned up Tim? I thought having it turned all the way up was too much in my 75. I have both an MP40 and a MP10 in the tank and love um. I think you just need to play with yours more. You have it just solid on now? I am not sure how you could possibly have one power head in your tank which puts uniform flow through out the tank in every nook and cranny, no matter how much you spent.
It also just wouldn’t make sense at all to have slave only units. It’s just a programming thing, wouldn’t be able to be any cheaper if it had the same flow and programming capabilities. It would be annoying to have something programmed to only be a slave. I think maybe you shouldn’t have let some pushy LFS employee talk you into it so quick and read up on it at least a little more.
John, the EcoSmart puts it into a ton of different modes and lets you tweak the frequency of waves and how strong they max and a bunch of other things. These aren’t like other power heads just being on or off, there are a lot of options. Mine eventually will be programmed with my Neptune to switch to different modes through out the day so it can randomly kick into nutrient export mode and so on. Just need more time to play with it.
Tim you should try to work more with the settings. You shouldn’t have dead spots with an mp40 in a 75g system…
turn that bad boy up to 100% and put it on reefcrest. only good things will come from that ;D
ummm…i gotta nother 40 off craigslist, guy from west chester that i met at fishman…now i have triplets cant wait to put them in the new tank…
Im going to put the two ES ones on the sides and the 40 on the back of the 180…i was going to order a mp10 for the back wall on black friday…but on the same day the first buyer back out and I got the put for the same price as the 10…The wave mode didnt work so I put in my old driver I swapped out for the ES upgrade…
you really need to print out a manual time since I believe they dont provide them with the ES right? Go into the custom modes and mess around…the custom wave mode can get your tank rocking…

When I first got mine in I played with both an MP10 and a MP40 on the same side of the aquarium and I noticed a large low flow area on the far side of my tank. Actually When Steph came downstairs to check them out that was one of the first things out of her mouth.
It all depends on your rock work. In my tank I have a massive rock with LPS and SPS growing out of both sides to the point where I can’t run a mag float on either side with out fragging something, it blocks everything. In my situation I needed to move one of them.
Tim has a lot of rock work and may need to readjust. That being said I don’t know how you couldn’t be happy as can be with Vortex and what else you could expect with EcoTech. I think they have a rock solid product and I was not disappointed at all to hear they are looking into creating other products besides just pumps. I’m very happy so far with mine.
