Julian Srung Lecture

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for putting on a really good show. PoM Turnout was good, and he covered some interesting stuff. I will venture to say that most of us were using the epoxy/cyanacrylate products incorrectly.

I think it turned out pretty well! Julian seems to be a very interesting and intelligent guy, hopefully he can come back again for us to pick his brain some more.

As long as the adhesion process is succesful (and fingers aren’t stuck together … lol), I’d say “differently”.

But the method he demonstrated is one that hadn’t occured to me, that’s for sure.

I agree. I really like the method of attaching corals especially for attaching coral to overhang the rock face vs. standing in a hole in the rock I didn’t know that I didn’t know.

The topic of Advection was very interesting. I would like to test how effective the process is based on flow and how we normally stack rock. I plan on testing the concept and creating a video and article for the main page.
Another topic I wanted to follow up with more research was the little sub-topic causes of OTS; the effect of low alkalinity and the growth of nuisance hair algae.

It was also great to see a lot of new faces. If you missed it, there was a video made and hopefully it will make it on the site. I really wanted to review and hit a few topics that I missed the first time through.

Thanks Julian, Delaware Premium Aquatics, The Fish Bowl, Armco Aquatics, East Coast Aquatics, Get Tanked and Dr Mac’s

Awesome that would be pretty cool.

I’d like to hear more about this as I keep my alk 11 dKH + and its hit even 15-16 a few times and I still have some HA.

I was looking forward to it but had to work. :-(" Let me know when a video comes on line so i can check it out. GolfC

Maybe we could show some clips at the next meeting

PBJ!

I thought all the info on old tank syndrome and coral chemical warefare and oportune bacterial systems forming in the tank was great stuff. I like natural solutions rather than equipment. It was a very good presentation.

HERE GOES THE BOMB IN THE SOUP BOWL… i honestly felt let down. when talking about “coral placement”, i wanted to hear about regions/elevations/ lighting/ flow/ etc. of different corals. not necessarily how to affix them to rockwork using HIS products.
2nd- a lot of things have changed in the hobby in a very short time. i remember not long ago plenum systems were all the rage, and trickle filters were the thing to have!! i guess i was expecting some NEW stuff about reefkeeping in general… not a lecture he wrote 4 years ago!

and the whole “old tank syndrome” thing… did anyone actually get a concrete answer to this problem? seemed like a lot of PROBABLY type stuff, and “i am sure as more research is done, we will know what causes this.” so why do a lecture to a club, looking for facts about reefkeeping and secrets from a reputable PRO in the business, about a theoretical problem with “old tanks”?

i dunno, looks like i was the only one who felt this way. but i just had to rant a little. sorry.

Good points, I guess I haven’t been to anything like this before, so I really had no expectations.

i really agree with fishguy9. i really expected something different. and the turn out was somewhat low i thought.

I would personally like to thank all of the officers and moderators involved in putting on this event. In addition I would like to thank Mr. Sprung for taking time out of his busy schedule to come to talk with our club and I look forward to seeing him again at MACNA this fall. I personally thought it was an awesome presentation and can’t wait to watch it again and again in the video. Hopefully Rich will have the video ready for posting in the next 3-4 days.

Once again thank you to all of our sponsors who helped make the event possible.

Keep tuned to the site as the officers and moderators are already at work at planning on next several events.
