my sand sifting goby is arched on it’s side and breathing very heavly. what to do. what is it from. did a water change yesterday. everthing should be fine. not from starvation.
the goby is spiring threw the aquarium. what could have happened. what do i do
Can’t give you a definite as I’ve never had this happen in the SW tank. But in my FW tank a few years ago I had a fish get some sort of infection in it’s swim bladder which caused it to not be able to right itself. it swam around on it’s side for about a week before it was able to turn itself upright again.
he is still alive gasping on the sand bed. he is still bent. could he have a spinal problem. should i bend him back in place???
I would not try to manually adjust him. send a pm to Jon (Gordonious) and/or Icy to see if they can offer any suggestions
You would not be helping him by “bending” him back.

Spiring?? I don’t know if this is what you meant. Spire = pinnacle or a point that tapers upward. Like a steeple. Do you mean he is upside down or its head is towards the sand and the tail is up? Sounds like he is in serious distress. It may be related to the water change if the temp were off as it would drop to the bottom where the goby would be hanging out. Watch him; if he dies pull him.
He could have been attacked by another fish; either way with him in distress other fish and crabs may attack him as a free meal.
the goby is dead. took him out before i caught the bus. i was trying to say spiraling. the water was added over the course of say 10 min. it couldnt be a fish because he burrows under a huge rock. My fish a calm. my naso is nice and my maroon clown does not bother anything. i have had it for at least 4 month if not more. never ever saw it do that befor. well thanks anyway. (2 sand sifter this year) the other was an escape artest
Thanks stinks, sorry man. Wish I had gotten to you’re message sooner, but it still may have been too late.
Just to be sure I would keep a very close eye on the fish that are in that tank, particularly to their gills. I sent you a PM with some really good links for fish illness and disease. Also double check you’re water parameters. Pull some water out into a glass jar, test everything at home and write it down on an index card with the date and time, and then bring it in to PA so we can double check with everything to make sure you’re test kits agree with ours.
Sorry you lost the fish, hope everything else is alright. Also answered you’re PM about the sarcophyton.
