Keeping a stable temp.

Ever since removing the canopy I can’t seem to keep temperature up. Was only running a 300w eheim in the sump. Today I added another heater in the overflow section to try to help. Any suggestions or what do you use?

I use a titanium heater and a controller.

What temp are you maintaining and what temp are you trying to get to? What is the temp of the room?

Well I try to keep it around at least 74. It had dipped to 69 this morning. But right now is up to 71 with the extra heater. Should I keep it there for a day so it’s not a big jump in one day. And the room temp is 65 unfortunately.

74 is a little cool as a stable temp. Most people shoot for between 78-82. A 65 degree room is going to add to the difficulty of keeping tank temp elevated. Multiple heaters is always the best way to go, if 1 were to stick on its not strong enough to raise the temp too high, and if one dies the other (s) will prevent it from getting too cold.

I’d allow the heaters to bring the tank back up to temp naturally. I wouldnt worry too much about raising the temp too fast in a day. Corals are more likely to die from being too cold then having the temp raise too fast. Just dont try adding boiling water to bring it to temp in a matter of seconds.

You need about 265W for a 10 degree difference in that room (65 room to 75 tank). You will need more like 375 for a 15 degree difference. Your heater is undersized.

Ok. It had raised it from 69 to 72 in like 3 hrs so maybe tonight I’ll adjust it to raise it more overnight

I agree. Temp is a bit low of our tanks. I maintain 77±2*. I agree with craig, get a digital control for your heaters. I have a ranco Commercial freezer controller. Its like 75$on amazon. Or spend the big money and buy an apex.

And your hood holds alot of heat in the tank. 1 reason why some don’t have them and put fans in the hood, to help cool the tank down
