Maybe I’ll try moving it down so it gets less light/flow. Added the Yellow Longnose Butterfly finally. I’ve even got it trained so it eats from my hand in the tank ;D
Thanks! It’s cleaned up all the small feather dusters in my tank since adding it only two days ago lol. I’m keeping an eye on it to make sure it’s not picking at the clam or any of the LPS.
You have a clam? Oh yeah… I remember that. That’s risky! You’re an outlaw BoNg
I had read plenty of people who said they were model citizens in their reef tanks. I went based on these reviews lol. Fingers crossed! I added the fish Saturday and was able to watch him all evening / Sunday daytime with no problems noted yet. I did go to work Sunday night for 24hrs so I haven’t been able to observe since Sunday day. I’ll see if he’s nipping at anything this evening when I get home :GOLD)
Moved the clam today. Think the YLNB might’ve been nipping periodically. Not enough to keep the clam closed all the way, but enough so that he isn’t fully open. Where he is its a bit harder for the butterfly to get it now without being waffled by current and the clam gets some more light which is always a good thing.

I’m thinking you should get your girlfriend a new tank for Valentine’s day and just seperate them, so you don’t have to worry any more…
Makes sense to me. Lol[/quote]I approve of this message. Haha
I get by that by setting up tanks when no one is home. This tank? That’s been there. What do you mean it is new?
The one room in the house I can do whatever I want is the basement workshop, so after numerous questioning “why can’t we have one in the living room…nope, new hardwood floors…ummm how about there, nope”
I finally had to organize the worshop and what do you know?
I found room for two tanks, ha ha now I have three
Now I just need to talk at least one of the kids into “needing” one in their rooms
Checked my tank parameters today. Specific gravity still low 1.024. I’ll add some salt to my top off. Calcium 450. Magnesium 1460. Alkalinity 6.5. Alk is a bit low too. I did a water change last weekend of 10 G. Normally have been doing water changes every other weekend so I’m only halfway to the next change. Should I worry about my alk? I’m going to bring the salinity up which will help some, but looking for some advice.
Do you dose for calcium and alkalinity? Once you get your levels where you would like them to be you could use Kalk in your ATO to maintain them. That is what I am doing. It may or may not be enough depending on how SPS heavy your tank is.
Right now I am only using 2 tablespoon of kalk per 5 gallons of water in my ATO and am maintaining 8.5 dkh. My tank is very new though and not many corals.
That’s surprising that alk is low while calc is high. They are used together. Do you dose two part?
I was having this issue before. I was hand dosing whenever I would remember after realizing this was a issue. Now I use a cheap doser that doses alk at night. If I dose during the day my PH goes over 8.4 up to 8.5 as my highest recorded.
Also depends on your salt. Reef crystals and red sea black bucket have high alk so with enough water changes each week you may not even need to dose unless you have a ton of corals in your tank, which you dont.
All my corals are fairly small still. I have been using RC salt but got Kent as my last batch since it was on sale. I don’t have a doser currently as my alk has been around 8 every time I checked up until tonight. I honestly only check every couple weeks for the alk, calcium etc. I check my salinity more often.
