Have been wanting one of these tangs for a long time and when I saw the new arrival thread posted by DPA with this Achilles tang included, I had to hope that first, no one would buy it before the day of our meeting. Second, that it would be healthy and eating regularly. Thanks to Bill and DPA with frequent upates I was able to check it out yesterday. After selling some frags and getting our club discount from DPA, this beautiful fish became affordable to me.
This morning it is getting along very well with my other tangs. And since I get home late after the meetings, it was introduced into my tank when only the moon lights were on.That helped to get it acclimated to the other fish.
Here is a short video from this morning.
I’m happy for you John YahoO it looks happy, and picking at rocks too!
nice grab , beautiful fish in an awesome tank… sounds like a win-win for both of you ::

That is a happy looking tang, not to mention your tank looks great. Your CBB looks great too :BEER
Looks great John, keep plenty of nori on hand, and it will do just fine.
Great John. They have always been a favorite of mine too. Same colors as my home team, the Cleveland Browns. The Cleveland Reef club should set up a reef tank in their office filled with Achilles Tangs!
awesome purchase!!! I saw it at DPA, it looked good.
What’s our discount at DPA?
Looks great John, congratulations on the new addition!!
Tanks looks great by the way - I really need to make a trip down to see it in person.

Nice John. How big is the fish?
Thanks saltcreep. Missed you at the meeting.
Thanks Pat. That CBB looks good because you took such good care of it.
thanks for the info Bill
Lol Ken
Thanks jtnova, Craig and BigCase
A, it is not that big, maybe @ 4", which means it is nice and young and can grow old in my tank, hopefully.
Wow! Amazing display. He certainly did go to a good home.
Thanks DPA
Just saw it eating some mysis, hope that continues.
It’s been 3 weeks now and the tang is doing just great. It is eating mysis shrimp and nori, seems to love both.
Hey Bill, does your tang exhibit bright orange color? and what size is it?
Thanks
John
Hey John glad to hear it’s doing great.
Mine is dark black and bright orange, I did see some wierd behavior though, I had a cleaner wrasse in the tank and when the wrasse would peck at the tang he would turn almost completly white, was the neatest thing. Few minutes later he will be back to his normal colors.
mine is almost 5 inches, he doesn’t mess with mysis to much but eats nori like theres no tomorrow.
Congrats, nice snag. Had one of these for over a year from DPA too. For some reason they do turn white/light colored sometimes - reminds me of the color change with rabbit fish when spooked. Never figured out why with this one but it didn’t relate to any apparent health probs, usually occurred overnight only perhaps a sleep defense mech. Great fish, fun to watch, grew pretty quickly. One word of caution…in my experience and from what I read these guys go along really well for a while and then suddenly BANG…they drop like a fly. I’ve seen it firsthand. Hopefully you will have good luck with this one, the DPA one I had lasted longer than anticipated and it was definitely my most interesting/favorite fish along with the Marine Betta. Yes i have a sweet spot for darker Marine fish with bright accents - makes them “different”. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info.
Great fish, great Tank!!
Can one of the officers tell me more about the DPA discount? I’m a paid member, but I don’t have a card to prove it. Should I have one, or is DPA ok with the “Scouts Honor” system.
