Well it’s only been one week since I changed over to the LED’s and so far everything is fine. My clams are opened and look healthy and all the corals are doing great.
I am very pleased with the conversion, be that it is only in the early stage. The temp in the tank stays constant and the fans hardly come on at all.
Paul, I’ve been in contact with the Growlight guy in Canada who is constructing the lights for reef tanks. He seems to stand by his PAR values and mentioned that I can return the light or exchange/refund, if for some reason it doesn’t meet the disclosed specifications.
what i said was just my opinion. i do know that what sold me on AI was the 3 watt bulbs and the controllability. if you do get the ones you show, make sure to post some pics for those reefers who might want to follow.
I agree the AI lights are definitely quality. If I was planning a larger tank I would probably purchase from that company. I just don’t see the need for the larger fixture at this point.
for a < 40gal you could also look into PAR Bulbs
if you are looking for pure PAR power I would suggest LED Pacific for looks and still good PAR Orphek PR25UV
The thing I would be worried about with non tested LEDs is that they could be just the right spectrum for growing nuisance algae like when T5’s get old.
The PR25UV is 12 x 2 Watt emitters with 60º optics price is $220.00 range has best spectrograph IMO
The Led Pacific Bulb they have a few but their flagship bulb is 12 x 3 Watt Cree emitters with 60º optics price is $190.00 range
The big thing to keep an eye on are the new Dense Matrix LED bulbs, like the new DIF-100, DIF-30 and Kessil A150W come with 80º , 90º and 120º optics which will give great spreads with the same or better par and color
It’s been a few weeks now and evrything is doing fine. The only corals I see that are slower to adjusting to the LED lights are my Superman and Sunset montis. Here is a video I took today with the lights.
Thanks Paul, the hair algae is just about all gone. There is a few spots left, but it isn’t doing very well. I ended up removing most of the rocks that were infested with the HA. Also, by keeping my nitrates and phos numbers down to almost nothing, it has just about stopped the growth of the crap.Taking out some rocks also helped to increase the flow in my tank.
