PBJ!k so hi guys im mike nice 2 meet all of you …clams need about 30 par 2 grow a sustain life…chalices 4 the most about 35 to 50 only the most demanding sps require high levels of radiation ive had 2 90 watt pendants over my dt for mounts now n the color and growth is nuts … PoM nems n clams hide from intense light…the brand name of these lights is northernlights they a guaranteed 4 3 years against manufacture defects so if lets say a few leds short out u get a new lite i couldnt find an affordable led fixture wit the features i wanted so i started testing and developing my own and for all u patriots im so sorry but to keep the production cost down i had to sub it out so these lites are not made in the usa :SURRENDER but they do have a 3year warranty so no worries neother? fell free to ask ..........Mike@northernlightsaquaculture.com [/quote]
i’d certainly defer to more knowledgeable people [bill, chris, anybody] but 30 par is just beyond my understanding for a clam. i cannot believe this is correct as a minimum, nor general chalices at 50. there may be some that survive at that number, but be that as it may, how do the clams “hide from intense light”??
the latest research i have read is that it is impossible to have too much light for tridacnids. their algae never get overstimulated to the point of stopping production of food. after all, in the wild, they sometimes endure extreme low tides and are almost in absolute sunlight.
quoting knopp, in his giant clam book, on pg 131, “i have also used halide lamps with 400, 1,000, and 2,000 watt with no apparent negative effect on the clams” the italics are mine.
“lamps of 2,000 watt should only be used on tanks more than one meter high.” from these 2 statements, i am confused by claims of clams hiding from these leds.
2 apogee PAR readings taken just now
40% white light 10" below surface, at end of ai module, PLUS light 13" above water level

same standards, but at bottom of my 75, probably 18" down, that’s not including the 13 inches of air, but this time close to directly under a module. i have 2 modules only, mounted crosswise

i don’t wanna argue or show any disrespect to others lights, but would like to see an accurate comparison. gotta go grandkids at the door. will post more PAR asap.

GolfC Sory guys it was late…lol nems and other softeies hide from extream lite clams need a bare minimum of 30 par… slap-stick thats wut i get for posting when im tired…but good catch on my mistake PBJ! ps nice meter ive got the same 1 lol
