LFS between Newark, DE and Washington DC

Headed west Today and back tomorrow. Hoping to hit a couple places on the way home. Will probalby swing by Exotic Aquatics, but where else should I stop?

well. i took a look at the old store locator map for the baltimore area and see 4 stores in the Glen Burne area:

http://www.zoyzoy.com/aquarium/aquariumstoresmap.php

one looks particulary interesting.
Sea Save, Saltwater rescue.

http://www.seasave.net/index.html

Never seen it before, but it’s been there a long time. Interesting surge tank setup for grow tanks. See the video. They are into lots of projects and causes and a radio show too.

If i were driving by Baltimore, i would check this one out. Take some pics and let us know what you think.

Sea save is nice , but they dont stock much…everything comes in “as ordered” and goes out the same day in bags…
but they do have a neat quarantine system in the back that I would like to copy someday…
really nice carribean live rock…
very conservation minded…
A different kind of store…

Seems to me like there QT system isn’t required, should see if you can buy it from them?

I’ll have to check them out one day. Unfortunately my trip was cut a bit short, Steph wasn’t feeling well and we came back early tonight.

Their QT system is for what they call “rescues” . people who bring in fish they no longer can care for…also they will QT a fish for you for a nominal fee… NO drugs involved…Just a .5u filter that filters out the free swimming stage of the parasites…Neat invetion that has to be seen !

thats good to hear. Still sounds worth a look. just to see what they got and how they work.

If you get a bit more north of DC, you should check out Mr Coral in Frederick, MD.

Nice place for corals, esp. on one of their weekend sales. And it happens to be about 15 minutes from where we’re living now.

Now to get the house built and re-start the tanks …

Mr. Corals is pretty good. Ive bought frags from them at the last MACNA and NJRC swap.

Building the house from scratch? Hey, you could alter the plans a little to include a tank filter room with water, drains and power, behind a livingroom/den/ or family room wall for a nice built in wall tank!
you could even build the equipment room with a toilet drain and plumbing positioned so that if you evere go to sell the house, it could easily be converted to an extra bath room, the tank removed and library shelving installed, or something. to make it more saleable to other than reef nuts.

that’s what i would do, if i were building.

If I were building… ok, won’t go there because that would be a bit extreme, lol.

Ted have you left us all the way? Not coming to the BBQ? Found a new club in Maryland? I suppose this means you got the job you were waiting to hear from? Hope so. We can’t be that too far away, so you gotta swing back to visit at some point.

That’s something like I’d do if I had the spare cash. Building the house to spec ain’t cheap, and every change add’s $$$. Just like a gov’t contract … lol. So the tank room will have to be a retrofit.

(1) No. Someone still has to keep this site going … :stuck_out_tongue:

(2) Probably not. I have two other places I need to be this weekend that, unfortunately, trump the BBQ. I think. I’m still trying to pin down a schedule on one. That’s why I say “probably” … but if I get the chance, I’ll be dropping by.

(3) Nope.

(4) Yup. I’ve actually been down here since the end of April. The family joined me after the school year.

(5) Plan to.
