LFS Tour, Baltimore MD to Newark DE

I used to on occasion take a road trip through NJ up into PA and back or through Maryland to visit LFS. I haven’t been into Maryland in a while.

Tomorrow I’m going to the Baltimore Aquarium(my birthday present) and hoping to tour some LFS on my way back to Newark Delaware. Anyone know of some places I can hit on the way?

Want to first make a list of stores that are with in reasonable range.

Yes,marine dreams is gone…unfortunately
As for sea save -great place-you might want to check the “instore” section of their website before you go…as a rule they dont keep much in the store…Wed. around noon time is the best time to hit sea save-thats when they get in all their shipments -its- “in the bag & out of the box” so most of the good stuff gets picked over by 5pm…
As for house of tropicals - the last time I was there ,the fish section looked awful-lots of emaciated unhealthy fish.the corals there are hit & miss. They do have a dedicated section for anemones and get some nices ones in on ocasion…

Thanks for the feedback.

I know there was more stores directly between here and Baltimore the last time I made an MD trip years ago. I thought I made a post about my trip on ReefCentral, but can’t find it.

Wow, SeaScapes has a very… colorfull website. Would be interesting to see how they run things.

Good Idea. Sounds like you have a few probables, but you can still check the store finder. might be something else listed.

or, if you are interested in a discus fish farm, try this one. need to call in advance.

and you can pet the cows, too.

Happy Birfday!

and iirc, toms tropicals was 95% freshwater. there WAS, wierdly enough, half of the store, filled with nothing but dead animal heads! some exoctic stuff, but really out of place. some full sized animals as well.

exotic was the best stop imo. HUGE store, LOTS of stock. prices were… ok. only problem was, i was interested in a few coral pieces, and of course the guy working couldnt give me much info. didnt know the price OR if it was even for sale for that matter. it was in a frag tank, with other sale pieces… kinda wierd. but they were putting away a large shipment from sea dwelling as i was there. like i said, huge place, lots of selection.

the aquarium on the other hand, not as impressive as i remember it. kind of slid downhill since the last time i was there. i think camden is now my favorite… but good luck on the trip. u gotta stop by the barnes and noble next door. its inside an old powerplant. (also had a huge freshwater tank in a wall btw) but the set up of the store itself as about as unique as it comes. browsing books while walking around and through old smokestacks was kinda cool.

Thanks for the info guys. Won’t be stopping in to see discuss today. Will likely stop by Barnes though, as I’ve seen that tank before, but never really looked around the place. From what I remember the shop owner at Exotic was the only one who really knew anything about corals and he decided to break down the display tank because there was too much drama on the internet involving corals.(I don’t care who says what about me on the forum, it’s not going to have me breaking down my tanks. Perhaps this is just a rumor, but was still stupid when I heard it.)

I called Tom’s Tropicals and when they said the coral was out of stock I kind of lost interest. I’m not sure how you can completely run out of coral.

We’re off, later.

Well did you stop anywhere?

Yeah, but I have to bite my tounge. I’ll share experiences in person, but not going to post on a public forum.

Funny u say that… the glen burnie trip has always been a favorite of mine, checking out all of the huge lfs. But recently seems that some of the prestige is gone at a lot of the we revisited a month or 2 ago. Its really ashame. Best stop we made was a 1st for me. exotic aquatics

Well I won’t say where I went, but I didn’t get to a lot of places. I will say I wouldn’t recommend spending money at any of them. One was worth seeing, if you were in the area, glad I went, but not sure I would spend money… Anyone thinking of going talk to me.

I will say the Aquarium’s Jelly display I thought was sweet.
