i stopped by there about 3 weeks ago. it was my second vist. ill give you my opinion, but its just that. i dont want this to sound like a slam. its not.
first, the store itself is insane. the shark tank alone justifies a visit. honestly, taking my son to see the sharks was the primary reason we went. during my last vist the store was sparsely stocked and there was a LOT of sick and dying fish. i know sick/dead fish are not unusual, but this was really bad. the fish prices werent bad, there were a couple of good deals but the corals were generally overpriced and the selection was thin. probably the worse part was the NO ONE had a clue as to what they were doing in SW. i couldnt even get someone to give me a price for a zoo frag. apparently only one person knows prices and he was on lunch ;D the staff was probably the worse part and its only natural that the state of the store will reflect the quality of its employees.
to be fair, this could be temporary, or even a bad week. the first time i stopped at nemos was probably 6 months ago and it wasnt nearly as bad. still not what i would consider an elite store, but certainly worthy of a visit. regardless, if you havent been its still might be worth a visit to check out the shark tank and FW planted system. the drygood selection is also nice.
thanks i’ll check it out when im up that way, just wasnt sure if it was worth a special visit, i’d rather spend the gas on Dr. Mac’s
It’s always good to check out different stores, but since gas isn’t free and none of us have unlimited time it’s always good to ask before taking the big trip.
I’d have to say I agree with some of logans_daddy’s comments. The prices on average are a little high, but there are some good deals to be found. They have a little larger selection then most of the stores in DE, but can not compare with Dr. Mac or some of the other stores in PA.
It’s worth the trip to see the store itself, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on filling your tank with quality live stock.
Dr Mac’s is awesome, Went to the Frazer Zoo and was pretty nice also. ALOT of stuff jambed into a little area. The sales guy that helped me did not know to much about corals na dhad to keep calling the owner so do not go up on Monday that is his day off. Would of like to have met him.
The past few times me and my dad have been to Nemo’s we have both been very disappointed. I wouldn’t say it’s an awful store, but that it’s gone downhill lately. If you’re going to make the trip you could always do a mini-tour of philly-area stores, like Nemo’s, Frazer Zoo, and East Coast.
i go to ECA alot, great store IMO
been to Dr Macs a few times, just out browsing, havent been to frazier zoo yet
I was at Frazier Zoo today. Awesome store, but not very massive just 90% cherry picked stuff. Have to make sure Mike will be there when you go though.(talked to him for an hour today) I meant to make a post about it, but was inspired to get working on my tanks some more.(still picking glue off my fingers)
TFZ is currently competing for the best Pet Supplies on myfoxphilly. If you’ve been there, and like it, feel free to cast your vote here.
If you haven’t been there, I’d recommend the trip, particularly if your looking for corals. Mike’s selection is, IMO, the tops in the Philly area. Certainly not Dr. Mac’s, but, like Jon said, 90% cherry.
Just don’t go on a Monday so you can talk to Mike.
Jeeze all I’m hearing from everyone is TFZ TFZ…I gotta get up there!
