Liking the new Kydor Koralias

These things are pretty sweet. YahoO Anyone else using them? I’ll post pics and a full review later.

GolfC Good job Hydor

This is the Hydor Koralia 4 and Koralia 1400 side by side. Keep in mind the K4 was said to push 1200GPH.

The annoying screen that sometimes falls off and disappears into the hardest area of the tank to reach is now gone. It is a lot easier to take apart and clean. The metal drive shaft is now gone meaning it will never rust and because of the new design it ALWAYS comes back on after a power outage. This new design can also be used with a wave maker turning it on and off all day long with little noise. It uses less electricity to pump more water with less noise, in a smaller less obtrusive design! Some may be hard pressed to give up there old Koralias, but if one dies on you or you need a new one I would definitely hunt one of these down.

Jon - is this your opinion? or is this something Hydor is promoting about these powerheads?

This would be HUGE if Hydor is essentially saying that these things are designed to run on wavemakers but wouldnt seem like the best marketing move considering they have a $500 DC wavemaker with special DC powerheads!

Not sure if they are advertising it or not. Andy told me and I picked them up and plugged them into my JBJ wave maker and they work flawlessly. Sorry sitting at Airpot waiting for Steph or I’d find the website with their advertising.(not sure it is on their website, but it is the same thing as on the box)

thats what i mean. it says that they work with wavemakers on the box?

thats really awesome! opens up a lot of possiblities!

are the two in the pics rated the same?

They are advertising that these can be put on times for wavemakers

Ok so the package says they work with “a timer”. So sort of admitting they would work with a wave maker.

To answer your question Shawn the bigger one(old K4) is rated at 1200gph the new one (Evolution 1400) is rated at 1400gph. The new small one pushes more water. The K1400 can pretty much be considered the replacement for the old K4 though.

I purchased the 1400 and the 1050 and will probalby be getting more soon.(hoping to set up a new frag tank)

very cool. hadnt heard of them yet. if the pricing tier is similar as the old line then it seems like a no brainer to me!

To be honest I am not sure how the pricing will go, but I know it is a lot cheaper then their old controllable(DC) pumps.

Here is a VERY good for instance of why it is great not to have the screens.

Veeery good products. And to think , all these are a result of a bunch of imaginative reefers playing with some pvc pipe, toy propellers and broken maxijet pumps. Trying to find a better way.

Maybe the next invention will be magnetic caterpillar drive, like in Hunt for Red October. No moving parts.
