looky what i got...

this will so become my build thread for my 29…even tho its like 4 months old hahah.

for now i will just key you into my most recent purchase for my tank. my new lights
i pulled the trigger on 3 nanocustoms par38 led lamps. all 60*, all awesome!

these are the 20k color, i ordered the 12 k but im so happy with the color that these give off that i dont mind at all. after my light acclimation period…or like 2 weeks or so i will get my hands on our par meter and post some numbers. but from what i saw on other forums these numbers should be nice.

the fixture i built my self. not toally finished yet as i will add a shroud on the front of the fixture to clean it up a bit but i designed and engineered the side supports and then i 3d printed them at work. i love cool toys like that…but back to the lights, actually its time for some pics. now these are phone pics as im still trying to capture the true color on my point and shoot (blue leds are crazy hard to capture) but here we go

this is a pretty good representationof the color, although in person it is more blue
same with the one below, more blue and some very nice fluorescence. ohh yea and the shimmer is unreal

and there ya have it. better pics will follow once i get the hand of the leds with my point and shoot.

wow. I like those lights. I think they would be perfect over one of the rimless nano tanks that the club is raffling.

I think it will be great to see how well your corals do with these lights over a longer period of time.

i designed and engineered the side supports and then i 3d printed them at work. i love cool toys like that.

the most important question: what do you do and what cool toys do you have access to at work?

haha im a product designer. the 3d printer is really the extent of cool toys that im really allowed (since i run it) to use beside the shop with saws and sanders and whatnot. unfortunatley out on the floor is where all the cool toys are like cnc machines, powdercoaters, all cool stuff like that, but there is some stupid rule about not using that stuff for personal use…who knows why haha. so unfortunatly no cool toys that the club could utilize.

Wowsers, what about the build part? lol

Wow very nice, have you tried them with out the glass hood?? Now you need to rent the par meter and give some readings!! ;D

im using the glass hood, as well as screens as part of the photo acclimation period. after its done it will be gone and will be replaced by something else to keep future jumpers at bay.

OK

Are they alot brighter then what you were using??

yea majorly i had pc’s on before, and not very good ones haha.

Pricetag if i may ask, and why are the bulbs all kool looking… BTW nice frogskin, where have i seen one just like it…

they were $100 per bulb plus 6 bucks each for lens change so it brought it all to $340.
they look so cool because that is the heatsink for the leds on the outside of the bulb.

here is a link for further information.

ohh yea one last thing…these are rated for 50,000 hours till they reach 70% brightness… so divided that by half just to be conserative, these should have the ability to last 10+ years. think of all the money i can save by not changing bulbs for 10 years.

If this works out for you i might pick a couple up for various tanks… They look cool lol

They look good! With only 5 LEDs per bulb they have to be much less than 1000 lumen per bulb. But the perfect focus of the lenses and reflectors would compensate for that. I didnt see a lumen rating for them. What do they say? I think the best experimental CREE LED is about 160 lumen or less, right now.

a NO 32 watt T8 puts out 3000 lumen, in every which direction, though. needs focus. LEDs are coming along pretty fast. cant wait to see what your par ratings are.
