Macro Divesity

I am looking to get some more species of macro algae. I have one species of calerpa (sp?) and one species of chaeto. I was wondering if anyone has some macros they would be willing to trim for me?

Also, a question on pods… How do i get them growing. Do i have to seed them or what? sorry for the stupid question.

Anyone have creatures i can throw in my sump…

i can give you as much cheato as you want, the pods be can seeded from an establised refugium…lmk

Want to try some large leaf Halimeda(aka Money plan)? I wouldn’t ever let it become very large as it will absorb calcium in your system, but I don’t think it hurts to keep a small amount for diversity.

Something else you might consider, just for fun would be a mangrove tree. Again just for diversity and fun. I think it’s need that I have a TREE growing out of one of my sumps. They do best with a bit of maintenance, picking up falling leaves, misting, but overall aren’t too bad. If you do get one give me a call or shoot me a PM and I’ll help you with some advice to get it rooted and properly situated in your aquarium water.

P.S. For the cost of a mangrove prop at most LFS I could probably send you a whole box of them for a similar shipping (gotta love flat rate shipping with USPS) when it is the right season.

Whens the season, i would defintly rather do that…

Couple months away I believe.

Yep, in around 2 months they should start dropping propogules. It is illegal to collect them off trees, and illegal to collect them once they are rooted into the soil, but when they are floating or washed up on the beach it is completly fine to collect them. And you can get a few 5g pails full in a hour. Thats how we do mangrove restoration… go collect pails full of propogules and then go to the areas and plant them in the mud.

Sweet, how much would it cost to ship a box up to me, we can give them out in the club if anyone wants some. 19350.

Depends how many you want. USPS runs flat rate shipping for a very reasonable price (5$ ish? for a small box)

Yes ICY, the flat rate boxes are pretty good. Its about a 2 day delivery from Florida, I believe. and macro and mangrove pods can handle 48 hours in a bag with enough air. Sure doesnt cost much to try.

soft corals and zoos might do pretty good too. as long as the 3 day forecast is for cool weather, and not death valley heat wave, things should travel well.
